The following is my discourse on go-go histories over the last 11 years in Patpong. People who are new to BKK may find it interesting. Anything before 1995 I'm not near the expert on and I would appreciate additional stories from some serious "old hands".If this is well received reviews on Soi Cowboy and NEP will follow sooooo..If you like go-gos read on.....If not,steer clear because this is bound to be a bit long (and in several installments.)
KINGS CASTLE 1- This was THE go-go bar in the late 90s on Patpong 1. From 1997-99 there were some seriously stunning babes here. I still contend that the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my life was a dancer here in '97 (And yes she fell to Penbelly's assault)  The mama-san was a bitch but,man could she run a business. I think she hired a designer to make the girls outfits for about 3 years or so. (I could write a short booklet just on this) and some were not only cute but inventive. Place was also extremely well-decorated and,as the flagship bar for the King's group,more than lived up to it's reputation. There used to be a cleaning fluid that they used in this place on the floors that made me get butterflies when I smelled it (Because I knew another night was about to start) I smelled it somewhere else once and it was all I could do to keep from being overwhelmed by memories. Sadly,this place began to crumble in early 2000 (like a lot of Patpong) and now has very few cuties and the decorations are long gone. But people who weren't there proir to 2000 just don't know.
KINGS CASTLE 2-This was number 1 in Patpong when I arrived for Bangkok 1 in 1995. It had more of a discotheque feel,a better sound system,and was packed after 9 at night,perpetually. Lost its title to its sister bar by '97 although it stayed hot until 2001 or so. Lot of good memories here too. The DJ (possibly the same one since '95) may be the best in BKK's go-gos. Also free-lancers would pay the mama-san just to stand around in here (especially on weekends) and some were breathtaking. Now this place is a joke with,like it's neighbor,very few hotties.
KINGS CASTLE 3-Very good stop until '97 with one big problem: there were extremely young girls in here (I give the MIB credit for this they gave the owners a chance to fire these girls or be arrested) some of the girls were no more than 13-14 yo which was a pity since there were also girls 18 and older here that were hot,but... enough were underaged that when they left It created a vacuum which was filled by.....you know what. Any walk down PP1 now at night can see the place crawling with ladyboys although they have made this a success,obviously. I have no interest in LB's so havent been in here since '97
CAMELOT CASTLE- No.1 in PP now,this is the only bar in PP that is stronger now than it was 7-8 years ago. This used to be the 'poor cousin' to KC1 and 2 but no more, as it carries the Kings Group colors. The tattered seat cushions are gone and at least 4-5 babes are on hand every night. Sadly,it is the only destination in 2006,in Patpong,for serious playboys.
THIGH- Prior to 1998 was known as Sawasdee and was one of the King's Groups serious threats in the 90's. I saw some knockouts in here,but,curiously,there was also a smattering of katoeys mixed in with 'em. Popular,and wasn't unheard of to have private parties. Now,same same,it's glory days are past.
SAFARI- Very popular with expats,this place has more of a pub feel and has been open a long time. Ive never BF'd a TG here believe it or not. Check out the decor!
SUPERSTARS-Spacious go-go also wasn't bad in '90s but is a haven for the dreaded LB's now. nice sound system and I have had a bit of fun in those 'secluded' high back booths 
KINGS CORNER- Patpong's infamous LB showcase. Avoid it unless you are into women that were once men. Sadly,it may be the most crowded bar on the street.
KISS- Grungy go-go with classic elongated stage has been around for the whole 11. I HAVE BF'd TG's here but it was few and far between.Now it's mostly knuckle-draggers.
PUSSY COLLECTION-opened 2001, Iv'e never seen a cute girl in here,but I haven't been here that much.
GOLDFINGER'S- One of the first go-gos to have their own website this place has been around a long time. They used to have a lot of pictures from yesteryear on the wall..VERY interesting to look at (similar to Tilac on SC)
ELECTRIC BLUE-Formerly Rififi, This place is one of the few bright spots in Patpong (nice web site) Most girls arent' hot but there seems to be a lot of 'em. Curiously,way back in the 80s,as Rififi,this was supposed to be THE go-go in Patpong 
PINK PANTHER- In 1999-2000 had some dolls here and was very popular but has went downhill since (of course) still TG's seem to be really into having a good time here. One of the top 5 in PP even back then....

Remeber when Queen's castle (1 ro 2), upstairs from Superstar used to have a bevvie of beauties.....when touch bar was the place for twosomes...

Just a bit of background. Kings Castle started as a small bar with just two go-go dancers in the late seventies and was located a few doors down from the Tip TOP restaurant. It then bought out a large bar called Grand Prix, and changed the name there to King Castle. It then started buying small bars (Pit Stop) next to King Castle 1,tore them down -built King Casltle 2- and went on from there. I do not know wen the Queen bars became part of the group- never use to frequent them after one or two visits.

Journeyman, good info! I believe Rick,a friend of Bernard Trink's,owned the Grand Prix from 1969 until his departure back to U.S. in 1990,correct? I will add my memories from go-gos that are no longer open on a later post.- Penbelly

STAR OF LIGHT- I decided to add the BJ bars,even though they are not go-gos they are,for obvious reasons,points of interest. The SOL opened during winter of 96-97 and quickly became a hit. I was blown in here on the first morning of Bangkok 5 (spring 97) and have had many repeats since I had always liked the fact that it was open in morning...there are enough postings on this place elsewhere on this forum so I'll move on.
ROSE- Oldest BJ bar in Patpong,was featured in book 'Patpong Sisters' in 1988 and is pretty sleazy now,but I guess that is part of the reason people go...
KANGAROO-Almost identical in layout to Rose,they had a big Aussie flag above the bar. Terrific BJ's in here for me,but it has been a long time since I've been.
More go-gos:
QUEENS CASTLE 1- The original QC 1 was located on the corner of Silom and PP1- No bars have fallen as hard as the upstairs bars in PP. I walked in this place once in 1996 and it looked like Caligula's palace. lithe brown bodies were twisting on top of farang men everywhere and it was packed. cute TG's. no more,it closed several years ago and gave it's name to the former Pussy Galore (confused yet?)
QUEENS CASTLE 2-Ditto the above, I was nearly gang-raped (although rape really isn't the correct word,is it?)  several times in here. And they were actually GOOD-LOOKING back then. Now you will retire from this place faster than If you had stumbled upon an army of orcs.
SUPERGIRLS- Opened in late 80s, this was one of a couple of bars that featured full sex on stage up until 1996 or so. Sipping a beer and watching a Thai dude impale a hot TG in 25 different positions was a unique experience,I assure you. Probably the best upstairs bar at that time outside of the Kings Group. (I had a mind-blowing threesome years ago in their short-time rooms) which are now closed. Homely TG's now are the order of the day.
FIRECAT-Now Firehouse,you got to give this place credit for it's unique setting,a super-high ceiling,combined with low-lighting,and bizarre tribal music led you to believe that the next parting of the crowd would expose a damn guillotine or something...fortuanetely it was just another full sex club. I remember being horny as hell one night in here and trying to find my LT girl for the night. The show girl gets her panties torn off and screwed right in front of me, I am horny anyway so you can imagine the effect...havent been in here for a couple of years.....
PUSSY GALORE- Used to be a very good upstairs bar,and some of the shows had to be seen to be believed. Basically alot like QC1-2 but a bit sleazier and more crowded it is now known as QC1.
SUPER QUEEN-PP2's only Kings Group bar like everything else in PP USED to be a lot better than it is now. haven't been in here for a few years and would love some info. rather large interior.
SUPERPUSSYS- Generic upstairs bar with aggressive LB's my only time in here (over 10 years ago) !!!

There's sure to be some BKK veterans who'll regale us with tawdry tales (yes please) but my experience extends to 1989 when CLEOPATRA - upstairs in PP2 - was seriously hot.
Seems unbelievable now but between 1989 & 1991 Cleopatra was wall-to-wall with stunners in scant lingerie. Even in '92 beauties could be found but thereafter it just went down and down and never recovered.
Also in PP2 was ROXY, another upstairs venue across from Cleopatra. Roxy was pure unadulterated sleaze: from the topless hostess who welcomed you at the top the stairs, to the horny soapy lesbian show - four girl! - plus the original ping-pong type shows, the bar was pornographic from pillar to post.
Patpong was *so* different back then when most P4P girls spoke English.
Now the location's gone from sex venues with a few market stalls to what it is today, almost the complete opposite.

Now... for the gogos in Patpong that are no longer with us..... KINGS LOVE BOAT (closed 1996-97) Sat where the Italian restaurant is at now on PP2...very odd,place was almost always empty but one thing was odd about that....always had cute TG's. 1 night I was in here I was the only customer and there were 4-5 hotties dancing. Babe said "Every night same..no have customer" WTF..never could figure that out..maybe guys didn't want to negotiate the small steps leading down to the bar.
PRINCESS CASTLE- (closed 1996) Where the fag bar sits now next to Pink Panther,Only in here a couple of times..as name implies...a Kings Group joint.
MIKES PLACE- (closed 1996) located at back of small walkway to the south of SOL....never went inside.
TOPLESS- (closed around 2001?) Underneath Cleopatra bar....Not about much in size or girls...
LIMELIGHT- (closed 1997) featured bar when A&E did a special on Patpong once. In the documentary every TG was cute...not when I was in here though. LB's killed this place which was not too far from Radio city.
BUTTERFINGERS- (closed 1997) young,young,young. Underage TG's owned this place and when the got their walking papers the LB's moved in...closed shortly thereafter.
TOUCH- (closed 1996) upstairs show club that was located next to Kangaroo on second floor..only went a couple of times.
LIPSTICK- (closed 1999?) classic upstairs sex show/sleaze joint where things could really get out of hand at times. Large interior. They kept the sign up for the longest after it closed.......well,that be it for PP (at least as far as the bars I was in......

Yes, Rick Menard opened the GP in 1969 and, for the record, it was the first Go-Go bar in Thailand. It was filled with GIs on R&R as well as the expats that lived and worked in Southeast Asia. You would find Rick at the small bar in the back every night playing dice games and betting with his regulars and one could spend a very enjoyable evening there. He also had the cream of the crop in the way of talent back then so if you went home alone, it was your own fault. I ran the bar for him for one month in the early 80's when he went back to the US and had a great time. Drinks were free and I didn't have to pay a single bar fine.
Now a question for the general forum membership....Which expat type bar has been in operation for the longest period of time without closing down or moving to another location in Bangkok?

Gotta put money on Safari. If I wanted to hedge my bets I would put an each way on Goldfinger. Maybe I am only looking at gogos in Patpong though.
Expat bar in BKK?
Some of the wash sq bars seem to have been there forever....a bit like their girls!

Don't limit it to Go-Go's, though. For a better definition, let's call them short time bars/restaurants.
Edit in: I have asked if anybody knows what bar/restaurant has been opened the longest time in the same location, without closing for any period of time.
