Though seemingly flying under the radar, the closure of the Lone Star somewhat saddens me. I will personally miss the Lone Star Bar. Over the years I have frequented this enigma of a bar. Have bar fined three ladies over the years. This bar always had good prices and game ladies. Always a friendly atmosphere and one of my ways to start the evening. Though some of you may not have as fond memories as I have. But you can't leave the place without some impression. RIP. These kind of bars cannot be simply built, they accumulate and develop personality. Hope some of you have some fond memories or some horror stories from this place!

I have been hearing about the bars closing down in this area and also that the square itself was about to be demolished. This has been since the past few years but never saw that happening. Guess they have finally caught up with the backlog. I have passed by all the bars there and only visited wild country once. And yes there is something nostalgic about that place. I would certainly love to give it another visit before everything returns to dust.

First time I recall going to the Lone Star was 1990. I probably didn't get back there again for a dozen or more years when Washington Square started picking up steam as a daytime and early evening drinking scene. It is a pity that the inexorable forces of so-called progress seem to be finally bringing this relaxed and friendly area to an end as there is precious little of this left in modern Bangkok. The trade from these bars will probably move over to Queen's Park Plaza until someone decides it too would be a great location for yet another luxury hotel, condominium or shopping center.

oh man, the stories.... !!!! the left side of the bar has been cracked & fallen down for about 20 years because an elephant broke a water pipe out front which cause all the sediment to wash out from under the floor & down it went. There were pictures on the wall from the night that crazy Ozzie regular customer brought his Triumph inside & rode it around the bar a couple of times, LOL I was there that night & it still smelled like exhaust the next morning. I wish I could have gotten that big tapestry that Richard painted with all the regulars in it. I'm also a little surprised it took this long to close down, as I figured it would plummet right after George died, which was years ago. The full name was Texas Lone Star, & many of us just called it Texas or TLS. damn, that leaves only Silver$ & Wild c*** Tree as the remaining bars on the block of buildings. I assume Cat's Meow is still there, but they have never turned a trade worth talking about. I assume they are just a front for laundering money or something. I met a great gal in TLS once who I spent a few days with & then she ended up being a meea noi of another member here. years later I saw her working at Hawaii or something like that, deep in Soi 22. She was still a great shag. Last time I saw her she came down to Banchang to visit for a weekend. It's too bad she was such a money pit, cause she's a great lay. Here's something a lot of people won't know, maybe only Expat Chuck would know on here. George, of TLS used to have a bar in Patpong with Doug who now runs Bourbon Street. After they moved the bar to Wash. Sq. Doug split off & started his own thing.

I'll think of the name of that Patpong bar and let you know tomorrow. I think he had more than a few partners on that bar. I'll call one of them tomorrow as well. What was George's adopted sons name? I hired him to work for the navy in Saudi over 20 years back but he couldn't hack it. He died a few years ago as well.

Don't think I ever met his adopted son. I'm about to eMail my old friend Nigel to see where he drinks now that TLS is closed. I basically lived around the corner from TLS in the Soi beside Family Mart beside Queen's Park Plaza. Those were the days. Wish I could go back there.

LY: Here's the low down on Papas. His bar on Patpong was named the Texxan and was located on Patpong 1 near Silom Road. He had three other partners and none of them were named Doug Harrison. Two of the original partners are now dead. George was involved with Bourbon Street with four partners when they moved to Washington Square and Harrison was one of them. They had a falling out with George and he moved around the corner and set up the Texxan Lone Star in around 1986 or 1987. Neither of us could remember his adopted son's name but I was set straight that George never adopted the guy. George just befriended him and took him under his wing. The guy died 4-5 years ago. I never knew George very well as I was friends with his other three partners and they didn't see each other very much. Only Pat went to Lone Star very often. Hope this helps.
