Well, I go to go-gos to ogle girls dancing naked too - who doesn't? I'm certainly not suggesting that this core activity be reduced.
To the average short-term tourist, and especially the new arrival, this is so overwhelming as to make everything else irrelevant. But let's face it, expats and other regulars get so used to seeing beautiful young girls dancing naked, that this alone is unlikely to engage their attention for very long.
Maybe a beer, two at most, and if nothing else is happening - f_ck it, off to the next bar. Owners & managers moan about how tough it is in the low season (especially when there are aggravating factors like now), but how much effort do they really put into creating venues where locals want to go and, more importantly, want to hang out for a while?
It's not just a matter of decor, ambience and so on - also of staff training, I think. How many times do you go into a GG and see customers just being ignored? Other bars where they're not being ignored, but swamped? Imho, the 'hostessing' side of things is often abysmally managed, and the result is that potentially good custom is just squandered.
How hard is this, really? You want a guy in your bar to feel happy and comfortable enough to hang around buying several drinks for himself, several drinks for the BGs and eventually to BF one of them. If he gets fed up after one beer and then sods off somewhere else, you've failed. First law of marketing is that easiest person to sell to is the existing customer.
So why don't I open a bar myself? Basically, because I'm personally incapable of managing a paper bag. But I've paid enough attention to the hospitality industry to know that many GGs could be done a helluva lot better, and could be a lot more successful than they are. Which would be a good thing for everyone, I think.

I also think Sheba's would benefit from
<a proper Ancient Egyptian ambience - complete with Nubian slaves, ostrich feathers, girls in Egyptian costumes & wigs & so on? >
The service girls wear a form of Egyptian dress but I think people who run bars
are thinking money not imagination. They start with a good idea(SHEBA'S) but then
do not develop it.
I did my bit by telling the girls my name is Ramesses II and then I gave them a
free palmistry reading(I've studied para-pyschology)
But I thought sexy Egyptian costumes(plenty in books on Ancient Egypt) and some
sexy choreography? Yeah but would people want it ????

You mean something like Vegas showgirls only naked? I think it would flop, the whole point of skinny costumes is to titilate. Once you go full nude, there's no mystery.
About Sheba specifically, she wasn't Egyptian. Her kingdom was in Yemen apparently. Around 950 BC. So I don't even think the pharaonic dress is appropriate to that era. It's like all the fake history a theme park throughs at you.
Just give me a clean place with eyecandy and I'm set. I don;t need the trappings.

Actually, this is the only thing that holds my attention. The shows are so hokey as to be unwatchable. I think what expats want is a clean place where they are fairly and respectfully treated, decent prices, and able to hold a conversation.
I think we're coming at the same problem from different angles.
Completely agree that training the floor staff is important and usually ignored. I think it starts with the mamasans who let this shit get out of ahand and owners who can't manage their managers for whatever reason. If you can't fire somebody because they are your g/f or a partner or they have the goods on you the battle is lost.
The frog bars generally seem to do a good job of keeping their people in line, but a lot of places don't. The punter should neither be swarmed or ignored.
Barowners are just blind in this regard. Word does get around about quality of service just as quick as quality of dancer's looks. I guess they don't care and are just looking toward the next customer who wanders in blind rather than the potential base they already have/had and pissed off.
Anyhow I've already got my business plan ready should 5 million baht ever fall out of the sky. You'd like my place should it ever materialize, I promise you.

Well, if you're not at all jaded on the eye-candy front, I genuinely envy you. I wish I could recapture that first time I went into a go-go and was just blown away. As it is, I try not to go into the bars unless I'm really in the mood, but even then the scenery begins to pall after a while. Trouble is, you just get so spoiled in BKK - you can ogle the most fabulous girls you can imagine butt naked (or titillatingly almost so) every time you have the price of a beer in your pocket.
I agree that securing first-class mamasans is vitally important, and that if you don't get this right, you might as well not bother with anything else. Anyway, I hope the 5 mill descends and you can deliver on your promise.

I agree entirely that Sheba's is an excellent concept which just hasn't been developed. First time I saw that great Pharaonic head outside, I was expecting great things. Went inside and... well, the BGs were wearing some sort of failed fez arrangement on their heads, and that was about it on the Egyptian front. I was really disappointed. Just another standard GG bar.
A worse example is Cascade at Nana. This is all done up like some sort of cave, and looks terrific - they must have spent a fortune on it. Yet as a bar, it's just atrocious - music far too loud (even for a GG), zero atmosphere and notoriously unattractive BGs who just aren't up to GG standards. What a pity. This place is just begging to be given some sort of 'prehistoric, primaeval lust' theme, and with some decent investment and some decent management, I'm sure it could be turned into one of the hottest bars at NEP. As it stands, it's just a waste of space. Ý

I went into Cascade last month and I think I was the only punter in there !!!
Either that or I frightened everybody off. I think the only pre-historics they have is the management(bit like mine in a way?)
I sat down a week ago and thought "How many shows/themes dance routines can I come up with ?"
I easily came up with eight !
But it is important to match the music and the movement to the costumes and the theme. This takes effort and imagination. Once a place like Sheba's(Vancouver you have it correct about the name) is set up and running every part of management seems to take the foot of the accelerator and expect things to happen by themselves !! Good start then they all go home !
Vancouver you are not the only one waiting for that 5 Billion Baht to fall out of the sky!

Missed this last week, sorry. But the reply is that of course I'm jaded, but I'm jaded all the way! That is, the girls are not even disappointingly foreground anymore, they're now the preferable background.
Confused? So am I. Suffice it to say that the prospect of tits doesn't draw me out of the house as readily as the prospect of beers. With that as a given, I'd rather have a drinking environment full of tits than of old barflys or haggard middle-aged farang couples. Or even fully-clothed bargirls a la barbeers.

Actually very sad to see 8-10 completely naked flat faced girls shuffling around, no eye contact, with very faraway eyes, like something out of "Night of the living dead".
That and the "polar" opposite, getting mauled by five girls, before I sit down, then one after another B-girls approaching for girl drinks, and pressure from mamasan, to pick and drink. Boring, drives me right out the door to Soi 7 Beergarten, and Thermae, or Nana Disco. JMHO.
