Thais are scrupulous about washing their asses, the farang dry cleaning methods (using toilet paper) is unclean in the view of some Thais.

No offense, but I think this is a bunch of shit. They did not tell you the truth.
I have been living and working in this country for 2 years now and I can tell you that Higiene is certainly not the Forte of Thai people.

This is not just ranting, I actually have evidence to support my claim:

1. Men Washroom : In my 2 years, I have yet to see a Thai male wash his hands; I'm not talking about rinsing half a finger pretending to wash their hands... I am talking about the use of soap.
One thing Thai men like to do though, is contemplate and adjust their hairstyle in the bathroom mirror... or licking their fingers and applying the saliva on their eyebrows...

2. Food court @ Work : I have also yet to see my staff, men or women, wash their hands before and after lunch... I won't even go to the extent as to expect them to brush their teeth after a meal.

3. In the office : Obviously, who says "office" in Thailand says "food"... we have a lot of food lying around the office.. from the basic fruits up to the Khao phad... Thai (both sexes) take the food with their hands, stuff it in their mouth and go about their work as if nothing happened.... I can tell you that the once "white" computer keyboards are now quite colorful.

and I'm not working with the lower class... these are Thais that earn between 40 to 80k per month.

I don't even want to imagine what these regular girls smell like "down there" LOL
At least, the Working girls get more than 1 shower a day

Quack Quack, not judging you mate, just apalled that Thais would comment on others higiene when they rarely practice it themselves.

Peace

Although in many restaurants etc folks might use some detergent or dishwashing soap to clean their hands, in many other places it seems they do not.

I have tried to get answers to this question and have met many oblique replies, which tells me that the truth of the matter is that "Germ Theory" has not taken a strong hold on Thai consciousness and often Thai will shit and wipe their asses and believe that merely the water will clean their hands enough. Two minutes later, like everything else, they forget about what just happened.

Yes, quack quack, as far as I can tell, it really is this dire. If you encounter a bathroom somewhere and there is no soap in there, then there is a possibility that this unclean behavior occurs.

Does this mean that you should check the bathroom before you sit down to eat? We can't be sure. Often they will take the dishwashing soap or detergent or their private supply of soap in with them. Especially in a lot of bathrooms (also being the shower/bathing room of course) in the moobans near the city or far from the city both, people just take their own soap and towel in their to do these things. So a visitor is usually left to his own device. Unless you ask first for some and bear the embarrassment...

This disregard for bacteria of the boogers, poo poo etc etc does not however conflict with Thais idea of themselves as ultra clean. Because after all they are always grooming themselves. Their regard for Appearance is so powerful. Therefore concerning the ugly little things, "out of sight, out of mind".

Gee, in fact nothing ever does conflict with the Thai idea of themselves, does it? 555
