So this venue is not really cheap compared to SC or Nana.

You either have a silly newbie face and got ripped off..
Some prices:
Large Heineken 120-140 baht
(In Harlem you pay 140 baht for the girls Heineken and she sits with you for 45-60 minutes, in other bars 80 baht for 30 minutes)
Coke 60 baht
Soda Water 25 baht
I've been in almost all of the bars and this is the trend in all of them. Most of them have drink menus.
This area is definitely cheaper than Nana or SC with upto 130 baht for a small Heineken or 110 baht for a Coke or water.
Also, you're allowed to share your bottle of Heineken with a friend (s) so the cost will be around 60 baht a head.

Was driving along near the area so decided to pay the suthisan gogo's a visit. was happy to find parking very easyily. but that was as good as it got. as im walking along, a few of the dodgy looking fellas tried to convince me that their place was best. finally stepped into one of the bars...oh dear...not much going on. I was the only customer. lots of very average girls couldnt care less that a customer walked in. ordered a whisky soda from the ladyboy waitress/waiter...5 mins later she comes back with an entire bottle of benmore and a bottle of soda. I said I just wanted one drink...5 mins later she/he returns and tells me they dont have that drink. ok, so finally just order a beer and asked for the bill. journeyed to a couple of other bars and not much better. not sure how they survive unless they fill up with locals much later. I was there from 10 to 11.
so to sum up...good for parking and nothing else.

This has a clear reason. Girls in most Sutthisan bars aren't suppose to come up and talk to a customer. They just dance (some of them quite well).
These girls are pimped by a mamasan if requested by the customer. Another reason why they shy away from foreign customers is their inability to talk English.
Fluent speakers of Thai like BK and myself had a good time
(in general).
I am sure you haven't visited Harlem... nice place.

I have been to a few these places for adventure, including Haarlem, but all of these bars are darker than cemetery, can barely see your own fingers.

actually I do speak enough thai and from what I saw it wasnt a language issue that made these bars very average. I think they just are very average. anyway I didnt go to harlem and maybe I have to try it.

I live up in that area and find it not so bad for the quick night out alone. I haven't been to Harlem that I remember, but some of the others. I've had OK luck in the go-gos, have a beer, wait for the rotation of dancing girls, it can be dark and slow - one or two at a time, that makes the quality hit and miss but good times to be had. I think you have to like the local scene I guess - it's funky for sure and pretty quiet.
I had fun the other night down one soi, I think 13, at a small karaoke club. Came in around 8PM, had beer and food with 3-4 girls. At that time they had a nice mix of music, no one was singing, not too loud so we could chat (always want to work on my Thai!) – relaxing hour or two before I went off with one girl – which was quite nice other than she wasn’t quite my type (tiny). I’ll go there again. Food and beer for 5 less than 1000, girl 1500 (she pays bar fine) and some tips for the other girls at the table (didn't invite them but who wants to be a party pooper)
