Thanks for posting some of the history of the bar....I am sorry to hear the news of it closing....for me, The Lone Staar was a Bangkok landmark...From my first trip to Bangkok 15 years ago through my most recent trip in April, I have always taken time to stop and have a few pops and listen to the colorful characters that have frequented this establishment throughout the years..My first trip to The Lone Staar, I met Mekong Kurt, "The Gater" RIP, Tony the Brit. Dean Barrett and of course George. That was enough to make it a place to spend a few hours and have a few laughs each trip. Unfortunately, I only remember one lady that worked there that I would consider a looker, her name was Gan. Anybody remember her or where she might be working these days? So are all the bars finally going to close in the neighborhood or was this just an isolated case of not having enough business to continue?

I was over in Washington Square the other day.
The Cat's Meow is also now closed.
Wild Country will close in late July, I was told by the proprietress.
Silver Dollar plans to carry on until the end of the year, at least.
Time to go visit the square before it's all gone!

I don't know the answer, but I think I know someone who would.
Go & ask Dtui at Silver$. She worked at TLS for over 20 years & I would imagine she still keeps in touch with Gahn. She is a looker, but I think the last time I saw her she was married to some extremely old geezer.

The story was a little cloudy from all the different perspectives I'd heard it from.
Papas told me the real skinny one night only months before he died, but I was too damn drunk to remember the dissimilarities from what I'd heard from others.
Do you think Harrison still has two other partners ?

Curious thing how the closing of a bar can deserve a thread of its own, when it never merited one during the 25 years it was viable.... Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
The Texan, Wild Country and Cat's Meow are now all closed... demolition in progress. Or it may be salvage operations... renters trying to remove anything of value, including steel window bars.
Doug says he will be around until the end of the year, but the clock is ticking down. End of an era...
