I know this is always discussed. The issue of to pay or not to pay, that is the question. Of course it is always on a case by case basis. The main thing is unless there is a compelling reason to pay extra, such as a knockout and you must have her. I would stick with the prevailing market rate. I just wanted some verification on what that rate was/is.

Well, if you've asked around you know what they want, apparently 1500. But if they all say 1500 you can probably negotiate some down to 1000, if you really want to, and I'm sure many guys do pay that rate. So you've answered your own question to a certain extent.
Now that you know this, if you plan to pay less than 1500, you should make sure the girl understands that before you BF her. Likewise, if she expects more than, say, 2000, she should make that clear beforehand.

Concur with Chompoo. A Nana girl gave me the straight gouge, she told me that most of the girls would be happy with 1500ST/2000LT. She said some girls ask for more and some customers try for less. If a girl asks for 2500 or 3000LT, and she doesnt drop her price to 2000bht, then she isnt worth it or she IS worth it (you have to decide for yourself before). I can understand the girls asking for more because this is survival but as for guys asking for less, as long as the girls arent inflating the prices to start off with, treat them fairly. One other thing this girl told me was that if the customer tries too hard to bargin down, it looks really tacky (which I can understand) and even if the girl will go with them, that doesnt mean they are too thrilled. Another thing she told me was that the girls hate it when guys try to duck the 500bht barfine and get them to meet outside at 2AM.
Take it for what it is, could be true, could be a BG looking out for her sisters. You decide and as MrJoe (and Spike Lee) says "do the right thing"

Thais are typically excellent bargainers and love to haggle over everything. However, whether you are talking about a ST or a t-shirt there is a polite way and a rude way to bargain. Contrary to what many farang seem to think, the polite way will often end up with a lower price.

I can't imagine why they would feel that way unless there tends to be a high incidence of being stood up by the guy. If I decide at 1:00 a.m. that I want to take someone, and I have already pumped baht into the bar by buying numerous drinks, I won't pay the bar fine. And why should I? The poo-ying can choose to meet me outside, or off I go, richer in baht. Two out of three times this has come up, the girls seemed to have no problem with meeting me outside.

Some girls will meet you outside and some won't. There are good reasons for them not to want to: 1) they lose a bit of money if you don't pay the bar, 2) it breaks the rules of the bar and they can get in trouble for it. If you offer to kick in a few hundred baht to split the difference they might be more willing to break the rules.

There are numerous bars where the girls need to 'score' as certain amount of barfines in a given month.
If they are not reaching the quota of barfines they might be cut in their salaries.
One more reason why some girls do not like it when guys are trying to avoid paying the barfines.
After reaching the 'target' they might be a bit easier on you if you suggest anything after hours....

Have you tried grace after 2 am. I had no problem picking up a very nice cuties for about 1200 for L/T and I never let them go at 6 am. I think 1500 is too much for s/t especially for day time encounter
