Sorry to pop your PC bubble Raatchasii, but this is Thailand and things operate differently here. Any non-Thais are discriminated against in this country. The difference between blacks and asian indians, and the rest of us, is that the rest of us don't kick up a stink about it. You, being of black color, are probably more sensitive to such discriminatory behavior because of your cultural disposition to put too much value on RESPECT. f*** respect. Just put-up or shut-up, or just f*** off somewhere else. Don't think you're the only kind to be bombed out of an establishment faster than Carl Lewis at a KKK meet. I have been threatened with death, beaten lightly, told to get out of Thailand in no uncertain terms, and constantly ridiculed and laughed at. I am North-Asian blooded, not an overly rude person, nor have any unsiteful disfigurations, except for my knob that is slightly bent from overuse. The difference is that I accept that I am second-class scum in this country and just put up with it. I laugh about it with people who see the lighter side of it. I even call myself "just a stupid farang" now. Thailand is predominantly anti-foreigner. It just happens that blacks are a bit lower than my kind. So HAK-JAI, what do you say? Just cut the f***ing race bullshit alright!
Lastly, I think you have just shot yourself in the foot saying that you find no difference between American Blacks, and your bruvvers on the African continent. If that is so then you can take your blackass and stick it down your f***ing throat. While the American people are no different than the rest of us scumbags, they are different than the Mugabes, and the Mbekis, who do actively promote racial discrimination.
Thailand are not racists - believe me. They just hate everyone else, even themselves sometimes.

I've actually posted on this issue a few times before. I'm an Indian from Singapore who has been refused entry into many gogo bars in Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza.
The first couple of times I was pretty upset because while racism is found everywhere with no exception I'm not used to it being shoved in my face so directly.
After my 3rd of 4th visit I realised that Thailand is not a 'LAND OF SMILES' but a 'LAND OF MOTHERf***ERS' who try to screw you over any chance they get, it just depend on the colour you are which will add to the degree the Thais try to screw you over.
Don't get me wrong, I'm into my 10th visit in 3 years...just got back yesterday actually...and I still love it.
I've just learned that the Thais are entitled to their backward thinkinf I will will just buy the ladydrinks in another bar who appreciates my business (or at least pretends to).
Tried to check out Hollywood but papasan or boss at the door who was clearly of Indian decent told us its for Members Only'....MAI PEN RAI....I say!!!
So we go to Carousel in Nana Plaza on 1st October me and 2 mates, one from Singapore and another from UK who looks as white as they come but was Indian. We ordered our drinks, less than 5 minutes later the bouncer came in just as the gals were coming over to talk to us, got the waitress to get us our bill and told us to 'f*** OFF'. In another life that would have pissed me off but in the 'LAND OF MOTHERf***ERS' I just took my business to Carnival on the same floor and spent my money on the girls and mamasan who at least pretended I was welcome!

You make alot of sense in your post....I think the THAIS do hate themselves but I don't think Raatchasii was whining but just telling it the way he experienced it.

If you keep thinking about racial issues when you hit the bars at night you're gonna get your tubes in a twist. It's not the whole world, just some people who use race as an excuse.
JR, I agree that Thai's are anti-farang. They are not racist however. There is a subtle but real difference. The reason why a lot of Thai's are anti-farang is for a number of reasons I don't want to say on this site because of the this site's nature, but also because it's a cultural thing. Firstly, in Thailand you should try to earn their respect first. Don't think the minute you walk off the plane that you are god's gift to Thailand. That type of attitude will get you zilch over here. Secondly, Thai's admit they are faulty to a degree. What they do not want is to have a farang, who usually has a superiority complex the second they land at Don Muang, to point this out to them. They do things over here the way they have done it for 100's of years and like it. Most Thai's I know want to communicate with you at the level they are at. If you can get yourself to that level, they are a very good bunch of people, and you will quickly find the race, color, creed, bullshit vanish. They will open up to you and you can see their honesty and friendship that has made LOS known for what it is.
As for the bars that discriminate at the door, everyone gets it. I think it is called "Exclusive" bars rather than racist bars. I think this thread should be called just such a thing, rather than "Racist". Many "Exclusive" bars can be found in Thaniya that allow only Japanese clientele. If you are black, indian, or a whitey, you will be stopped from entering. The girls there are the darndest, most cutest little girls in all of Bangkok. But they are "Exclusive" to Japanese only. Same for those that cater to Koreans.

I have lived in Thailand for nearly 12 years now and I have intermingled with Thais ( male and female ) - rich and poor, educated and uneducated, powerful and powerless, city-folk and village-folk - all over this country, basically following the philosophy outlined in your post above.
And I have had a wonderful 12 years.

Well, It's good to see that you are capable of being civil at least this time.
Anyway, For your information, I don't make racial issues whenever I go out to the bars at night. Believe me, it is the very last things on my mind! But in the very rare chance when it does happen, of course, I get mad- hell, just like any normal person would faced with something like blatant discrimination. I'd remember the incident, but I would not dwell on it for long ( or as you say, get my "Tubes in a Twist" ). As we all know there are plenty other venues that would gladly drag any warm blooded body into their place. Yes,I know, "This is Thailand", where things are done differently. But there is a difference between "Racism" and "Racial Prejudice". Thais who enforce the "Members Only" credo at their establishments may not display the definition of "Racist" behavior, but they definitely "Pre-judge" according to sterotype characteristics or behaviors of groups of people different from themselves.

I just don't think publicly singling out bars that discriminate is smart. People make a living from these establishments. If that means some of us are not allowed to enter, then so be it. I simply make a mental note and try not to enter again. I would bring attention to these bars by calling them "Members only" or "Exclusive". The owners just want to maximise their profits, and if that means keeping out certain races and color, as crass and uneducated as that sounds, then it is my belief they should be left to run their own affairs. Japanese patrons are happiest when they are in an exclusive Japanese bar. No f***ing Koreans allowed! I hope that makes you feel better. Just for your knowledge, below is a list that might help you avoid any faus paux when treating your friends with a night out:
1. Japanese dislike Koreans and vice versa. Do not mix.
2. Mainland Chinese dislike Taiwanese. No fault to the Taiwanese mind you. Mix with caution.
3. Indians dislike Pakistanis and vice versa. Do not mix.
4. British dislike the Germans. Do not mix.
So when a British pub for example hangs a union jack outside its doors, it means "germans keep the f*** out!"
