The Rolling Stone bar opened and shut down in a sub soi of Sukhumvit soi 10 recently. It's no surprise after a recent visit.
Since the soi 10 bars were bulldozed over 4 years ago there has been a shortage of bars in the soi so I was very pleased, eralier this year, that a new bar had opened. It could become my local.
First and only visit I arrived during happy hour. Or so I thought. I ordered a beer and sat next to the only other farang punter at the bar. After a few sips and a quick look around (the pool table was surrounded by 5 Thai blokes) I checked the bill to confirm (as I always do) that the price was correct. It was not and they charged me full price, not happy hour price. I asked the girl who served me why she had not charged me for happy hour as, 10 minutes after ordering, there was still 5 minutes of happy hour remaining. 'Happy hour finnit' was her response. I picked up the table top menu and pointed out the happy hour timetable and she repeated 'Happy hour finnit, solly' and promptly walked away. The price for non happy hour beers was 100 baht so not exactly he cheapest beer in town, considering (among other things) the location.
The other punter had a quick laugh and told me how shit he thought the bar was and the only reason he had found himself there was that he was staying in a hotel on the soi and he would never return to the bar, once he had downed his current beer.
Anyway we chatted for a while, and yes, ordered another beer all the while I was waiting for the pool table to free up. I also noticed that the Thai boys playing pool had not refreshed their beers 1 hour after my arrival so clearly they were nursing their beers while monopolising the pool table. I can only assume they knew the owner and had been given the ok to loaf around. I and the other fella made a brief attempt to chat to the girls but their miserable attitude made it impossible. They were much happier talking to themselves.
In short, I have seen worse service in bars, dearer prices and uglier, surlier birds, but certanly not in a new bar that looked desperate for customers.
Any other nominations out there? Some of the empty bars in soi 33 perhaps?

That night she was the only decent one there & while I had a wild old time in the bar, I don't think I could handle going in again.

Cos it was the only bar in my soi, so I had t give it a chance. I walked past it every day and never recall seeing anybody sitting in it so I suppose it confirmed the above.

If I haven't got my mel sniffer with me to detect stale beer and stale pussy, I have to rely on my first impressions.
I wouldn't be waiting an hour for the pool table and if the happy hour was apparently over before the time stated, I'd be out of there whether I'd finished my beer or not.
Leaving an unfinished beer is a big enough statement for me to make. And it is registered, if not by the manager, then by the other customers.
If I passed the place after a month or two I might try it again, since places can change remarkably with different managers and different girls serving.
Soi 33 ? Definitely Napoleon, Christies (? - first bar on the left hand side ) and few of the other artist bars are a waste of time and money. But there are some really good bars in that soi and the prices for everything, including the bar fines reflect this in money terms. Not my area really, unless I want to watch the rugby on those big screens.
Mind you if I was heavily into balls massage, I'd be down 33 and 24/1 every night. Unfortunately the oil well revenues don't slurp in that often to permit such favoured dalliance.

I don't know how the f*** most of the bars on soi 33 survive. As far as I know only Office, Lookie Lookie, Wall Street, Renoir and Green Parrot make any kind of decent profit. There were only 6 bars in that soi when I first arrived in 1993 so now with 30 odd and no great increase in traffic in that soi there must be serious money being wasted. I think Teen Massage etc. must be helping the soi cos I always drop in for a starter in the soi before going for a shag.

If I recall, there used to be a Rolling Stone (pool) Bar in Soi 20. I once went there with a fellow member (now a former bar owner himself).
Very expensive prices for a common bar like that. Plus food was billed that was not brought..... When I noticed the girls said' Oh he doesn't know, he doesn't speak Thai'.
