They are not impinging on anyone's rights. The bars are private property. If they don't like the way you look or talk, it is their right to stop you from entering. I am afraid it is not racism or discrimination, it is respect for individual rights. The problem with this thread is the belief that you have been vicitimised. That is your problem, not the bar owners. I believe you should not single out bars on this thread for such behaviour. Like I said, they are running their establishment without cheating their customers, to the best of my knowledge anyway, and don't deserve to be singled out. They are not over-charging, or robbing you blind. They just don't want to do business with you.

Either way you are free to have a a "FREE" whiff up my armpit and judge for yourself whether the need for a deodrant is called for or not?
Personal grooming is absolutely important and though I may not be good looking take pride in dressing well and personal hygiene as I feel this goes a long way even though I may be paying for the services of a gal.

Just back from a week's fun in Pattaya- so much un indeed that the liver and another organ (not as large unfortunately!) will take at least another week to recover!
Anyway, did the solo barhop for the first few days but met a cool black dude from the US in one of the beer bars and decided to barhop together since we clicked.
Anyway, the 'members only' BS started at this point in so many bars that it was freakin' ridiculous!! It really sucked and for the first time, I felt how awful it would feel if it had happened to me! Hey, we were out to have fun, spend money in the bars and enjoy heaven on earth, for God sake! Anyway, my mate was pretty cool about it, and maybe even more than me, and said this is why he sticks with the beer bars- don't blame him!
The only funny bit was when I decided to ask at one of them how much membership was, and the prick had the nerve to say 100 baht each, when he knew I hjad been there just theday before! Same in Classroom, where I had been the day before and the same girl had politely invited me in, when this time she stood at the door, with her arms crossed, and hissed!
So, what's my point? This stuff sucks, and I have only come to really realize how much it sucks when it is dished out, in your face, by doormen and doorgirls half your age, only because of the color of your skin (or that of the person you are with).
Personally, I wont be returning to those bars anymore.

Oldtimer is really shocked to hear about this discrimination in Pattaya. Board members should boycott the bars that practice it. Cannot we keep a list of the bars concerned until they clean up their act?
Its bad behavior which should be prohibited...not the colour of a chap's skin.
Do any publicans think otherwise?
