The Roo Bar on Walking Street posts a sign: "No Arabs May Sit Here". Personally, I don't care who the target is, I won't patronize a bar with any type of exclusion policy, even against Texans. In fact, I won't even walk into a bar that posts "Japanese Only"

Ok, I've been trying to rewind and play the videotape in my head (God the picture is blurry!!) but here are a few bars that did the 'members Only" thing that I can recall for certain:
Far East Agogo
(I remember this now as the one where the doorman asked for a 100 baht membership fee- now, I had been in here the day before, when alone, and to put in mildly, I may have returned alone (as opposed to taking my new found friend on a lets-try-them-all-out barhop if he had paid ME 100 baht!)
Classroom (as mentioned earlier)
(What struck me here was how unnecessarily rude the doorgirl was when we approached, especially since she had been extremely polite when I had been alone the day before. Two-faced nasty piece or work!)
Spicy Girls Agogo
(now, this one was funny! Two barely post-pubescent doorgirls, with almost apologetic looks on their faces, shuffled through a deck of cards to find a 'members only' card! This was the leats offensive, and we had to laugh as we walked away!)
Electric Blue or Peppermint or whatever it's called.
There were a few others but both the videotape, and the videoplayer, are pretty worn out!
On a positive note, we were both warmly welcomed at Happy Agogo, and we had a blast here! Great big bar, great looking gals, and good service. If there is a positive side to all the 'members Only" BS we encountered that night, then this was it: had we gone in to some of the others, we may have never had time for Happy, and happy-happy we were to have found it, and to have spent a load of baht here instead of speading it around all of the other discriminating 'Members Only" BS bars!

After the experience I had, I would support this idea for 3 main reasons:
1. It would avoid the outright humiliating experience of being told to effective "f--- off' when out to have fun on your holidays!; and
2. It will allow people like me and other like-minded punters to avoid bars to practice such uncivilized behavior and send a message to the owners that there are paying customers that find this abhorant (maybe this may noit change the policy, but a message will be sent nevertheless).
3. According to my mate, when there was no one at the door at Long Gun to stop him from entering (him not knowing that this was a "members Only' BS bar), the treatment he got inside made him leave within minutes- no one asked for his order, and the girls on stage were whispering to each other (presumably not saying 'hansum man!'). This would suck even more than being denied entry, and so posting the names of bars that do this could prevent this even more humiliating experience!
As my mate said to me as we walked away from the Far East Agogo- I can check in to the Oriental in Bangkok but I can't get a drink at a dingy looking girlie bar! What gives, man??

One must make the important distinction of whether the discrimination is the policy of the bar, or merely the personal predjudice of employee (s) working the door and/or bar that evening.
I enyoy the diversity of Pattaya, from the Arab Section, to the German and Nordic restaurants, British football bars, and you can even get thai food. Throw in a few others I'm not particularily interested in, like Boyztown and GoGo's with Russian girls, and it's quite an eclectic mix, almost surreal, difficult to find anywhere in the world.
There's only one Pattaya

You make a good point. I suspect that often it is arbitrary, rather than policy, and dependent on the prejudice of staff, as you say. I wonder if, in these cases, the owners are aware of it? If I was a bar owner, I think I would like to know if potential customers were being turned away simply because of the color of their skin.
I too enjoy the diversity of Pattaya, and I think you have summed up that diversity well. Unfortunately, as I recently found out, some aspects of that wonderful diversity appears to be available to some and not others for no legitimate reason. This is, in short, wrong.
Otherwise Pattaya remains a great place!

I am a black American. When I first got here, about a year and a half ago, the first girl I took was from Hollywood 3. I had a great time with her and popped 6 times that night. When I went back the next night for seconds, I got the "string treatment" where they would pull a string across the door to prevent me whenever I tried to enter, but would let all the white people through. I thought it was my fault for overworking the girl and felt guilty about it. The two black guys I told about this thought this was hilarious and laughed their asses off. Turns out that they were just barring blacks that day. I'm not proud to say that instead of boycotting the place, I went back and took the same girl the next day.

Don't be hard on yourself, jayh--Geez, if she gave you 6 pops in one night as you say... I'd probably brave fire or water for that too!
That's another reason why these crazy places shouldn't be discriminating. The power of sex is one instinct that is stronger than the other urges (or whatever they are) that give rise to those prejudices; it's one thing anybody who steps in will smile about; and they can capitalize on it too.

Anyway, did the solo barhop for the first few days but met a cool black dude from the US in one of the beer bars and decided to barhop together since we clicked.
Anyway, the 'members only' BS started at this point in so many bars that it was freakin' ridiculous!! It really sucked and for the first time, I felt how awful it would feel if it had happened to me! Hey, we were out to have fun, spend money in the bars and enjoy heaven on earth, for God sake! Anyway, my mate was pretty cool about it, and maybe even more than me, and said this is why he sticks with the beer bars- don't blame him!
So, what's my point? This stuff sucks, and I have only come to really realize how much it sucks when it is dished out, in your face, by doormen and doorgirls half your age, only because of the color of your skin (or that of the person you are with).
Personally, I wont be returning to those bars anymore.
I feel for you and your buddy, man!
Wow, I've had the good fortune to have never run into any of that nonsense in Pattaya yet - Unless things changed in the few months since I've been there last. But then again, I am usually in Pattaya in the middle of low season - and maybe that has the effect of making those Go - Go bars that usually do discriminate to conviently forget their "members only" policy for the time being!

Yeah, the thing about Pattaya is that there are so many Go - Go's, they do seem to blur together, especially if you're really drunk! I don't ever remember going to those places mentioned above, but I have to say personally, I was never given the "Members only" line in any of the Go - Go places I went to in Pattaya, either with my good friend ( a fellow American who is a retired farang living near Pattaya ), or by my black self. I do remember us going up and down places on Soi Pattayaland 2, Walking Street, Soi Diamond, and actually had to resist being pulled into the bars by over- eager Thai doormen and Hostesses!
The only one that I remember really well is Living Dolls, which is a place that I liked alot, even though It was a bit too dark for my tastes.

I didn't have a chance to go to Electric Blue last trip, but I did go there the year before, and had to trouble there, either when I first went there with my friend ( who knows the owner! ), or by myself.
But as for Peppermint.... I never have any problem getting in there also ( even though they are thourough with the camera-check thing ), but I have to say that I never have a good expericence when I go there. Yes, it is a popular place, with alot of really nice looking ladies, but I did seem to sense some bad vibes there. The first time I went there back in 2003, I was shown a table all the way in the back near the bathroom with a bad view of the stage, and no girl came to me for a good half hour, before I decided to leave.
Last summer, when I was at Peppermint with my friend and his wife, we did get attention from the ladies, but it seemed that they though that my friend's wife was with me, so they were all over him!
My friend's wife got really angry over this, and told the Thai girls off finally ( in Thai, of course ! ) It's amazing how the whole Thai "Saving Face" thing works, especially with Bar girls! 
After my friend and his wife left, one of the Thai Peppermint girls was agressively all over me suddenly, wanting me to bar fine her. I asked her how much for short time, and she quoted me some out-of-this-world price (about the same as the "Farang price" one would find in an upscale Bangkok Massage ).
I quickly paid the bill, and I ran out of there as fast as possible!
Coincidenly, after that, I went across the street to......

.....Happy Agogo! That's where I went after my bad Peppermint experiece! I loved that Place! Highly recommended! The hostesses are really friendly, ( even if they are only with you for drinks! ) the staff are really cool and helpful, and the dancing ladies on the stage are totally hot! (I even was able to take one lovely back to the hotel with me...  )
So if you are a man that happens to have the "bad fortune" not to have been born either a white or Japanese man, and are getting the "members - only" line while in Pattaya, I would recommend just going to Happy's!
