Ok, Here is how it works, as explained to me by one of the bar owners. Let us say you really like the same girl and you want to see this same girl each time you come to LOS. You pay the bar the one time 10,000, bar fine and you never have to pay another bar fine for this girl. When you are in town she is "yours." When you leave town she can go right back to the bar and start dancing and doing STs and LTs, it is up to the girl and whatever agreement you have between you and the girl. When you come back to town she stops working and stays with you. If she never wants to come back to the bar that is up to her also. This might also make sense if you want the same girl with you for the entire length
of your vacation, assuming you will be in country for
17 days or longer. Of course the girl has to be willing.
Some of the girls have stopped working altogether and
are living with their boyfriends. Some still come by the
bar to be with the friends and even dance on the stage in their street clothes, but are not looking for customers. Some, as I mentioned earlier, return to the bar and work until boyfriend returns. The owner I talked to says if they catch the girl screwing around on the boyfriend after he has paid the 10,000, and is still in town, she will never be allowed to work in his bar again. If they find she is working in another bar when
she is not suppose to working, ditto, she will never be allowed in his bar again.

I stayed with one BG for 7 weeks in Pattaya. I was prepared to pay the 200 per day barfine X 47=9400. Pukky told me if I paid the bar 3K upfront she could quit and when I left she could return to the bar.
I paid the 3K.

In BigDUSA's case I would say a reasonable alternative.
In other cases, paying upto THB 15,000 to get the girl out of the bar is plain stupid and a simple trick to extract more money out of punters. There are other ways.... If you really like to be with the girl for an extended time, she'll probably think of other (cheaper) ways like taking long leave.
If she can't return, she can always work in another bar. Most bars are looking for staff.
Remember, we're dealing with people not with bar owner 'slaves'.

As far as I know there is no actual contract. As you say it is just another scam to extract more money out of us stupid Farang. The more experience I have with the bar girls and the Thai people in general, I'm starting to believe they really do think we are stupid. Are we? As compared to what?

Cool to see this post still surfacing now and then.
When I started this post I had a couple of fragments and the info supplied helped me put the pieces together.
This is what happened. My then TGF was bought out of the bar by a farang paying 10,000 baht. For this sum she was allowed to leave the bar's employment but able to return at any time. Said farang then set her up in a Bangkok condo where she remains month by month with him paying all expenses. He also sends money directly to her family each month. He works both abroad and in Bangkok and she is his "mia noi" when in town. Having been bought out of the bar she retains a certain status or "face" value at her former place of employment. I don't know how much if any of the 10 k she got.
How do I know all this? Easy she told me. She is still one of my regular TGFs when I am in Thailand (I've flown her to Phuket twice to meet and stay with me there). I have no idea how many of her old customers she is still attending to but judging by the two types of emails I get - personal and "cut and paste pro-forma" I am in no doubt that it is not just me and the sponsor. Email is sent out on the computer he has provided so they can stay in contact when he is not in town. Multiple hotmail accounts - a girls best friend.
How does she get away from the sponsor? Again easy. If he is not in town no problem of course, or if he is due back well she got lonely and went "home" for a few days. If he is in town, then a family emergency or 100th birthday party for a relative and away she goes.
Her family know what is going on and cover if said sponsor gets suspicious - not going to lose that monthly income over a minor infraction are they? This includes ringing her and telling her to give him a call and handling any mail that I want to send to her (holiday pics are a recent example). I have no idea what her Bangkok address is and have no desire to know it.
Do I feel any guilt over this deception of a fellow farang? No. None whatsoever. She was my TGF before him and he has just paid for a higher level of service - like having a hire car 24/7 when you are in town - pretty silly to think it just sits in the hire company's garage when you are not driving it.

He has paid for a level of service that he is not getting. Maybe I find out the driver of my 24/7 car service was taxiing other people around on my time and that is why 1) sometimes he was late to pick me up (he sure seems to get a high number of "flats" ), 2) the car was smokey, dirty, run down..., 3) the driver was tired and thus endangering my life,... I'm going to be extremely pissed that I've paid a premium for such lousy service (and that they guy got my business by lying to my face about what he would provide).
It doesn't make it ethical just because he doesn't know about it.
Not to mention that your analogy only applies if you consider the girls just as commodities and disregard his emotional investment. The whole situation is dishonest and unethical, but it's up to you whether you want to feel guilty about it. I'm curious as to what kind of thing you would feel guilty about, however.

You get what you pay for? No, that is not correct. The truth is in most cases you REALLY get what you REALLY pay for. Maybe your driver is giving crap service cause that's all you are paying for. Deal or no deal.

So what you are saying is that since she made a deal she should stick to it no matter how crappy it turns out to really be? Maybe thats how it works on your planet.
