Arcadius you have a point. I think most of the belly-aching you hear on this topic is from guys that live here (like me) and have to put up with it year round. For someone visiting, it doesn't put that much of a dent in the wallet.
I've learned there is no point in belly aching, just say mai pen rai and get over it. Cost of play is the price you pay.
But realize when you stop and think how the price compares to your beers back home. Mostly the cost of living in Thailand is about 25% of the US. But that relationship doesn't translate to the price of beer. Nor does it reflect the cost of the beer to the bar. My feeling has been for sometime that Crown group is running scared. They see the end to NEP on the horizon (distant perhaps) and want to pull as much money out of the situation as they can before they lose out. You don't see these levels of prices at Patpong. There you see petty ripoffs that are mostly going to the people doing the scams and not the owners. It's been long rumored here that NEP will have to shut down one day after they rezone.

looking at my expense structure for p4p in LOS the price of the beer is marginal.
most of the times i do have a bottle of gin or whiskey in the places i frequent anyway, so prices of single drinks are irrelevant, as opening bottles is much cheaper. as long as the bars do not hike up the prices for lady drinks, i don't care.
at the end of the day i am there for having a good time and don't care whether i pay thb 100-200 more on a night out. there is more money spend on tips anyway than those extra copule bahts!

No, I live in BKK too. But the point I'm making is that I'm never really in a go-go for the purpose of consuming alcohol (that's incidental), and if I'm going to do the whole business - ie, take a girl - the add-on cost of a Ýhigher-priced beer is very marginal. (And I can say that without being in anything like griff's spending league!)
These days, I have no interest in getting smashed for its own sake. If I do get smashed, it's while socialising, and I certainly don't go to a GG to socialise with friends. That kind of drinking I'll do in pubs etc.
What do I go to a GG for? Well various reasons, ranging from casual ogling/reconaissance exercises to serious prowling. Whatever - the focus is very much on the girls, atmosphere, stuff like that. These are the variables which will dictate where I go, not an incidental expense like the price of beer. By the same token, if I want to pay bar for a BG, it's hardly decisive whether the BF is B400 or B600. Sure, I'd prefer to pay B400, but I'm far more interested in getting the right girl. Ý
Way I look at it is this. If I spend (say) B3,000 all told, and end up with an unsatisfactory encounter, I've wasted B3,000. If I spend B4,000 and end up with a really memorable encounter, then I've had a helluva lot more than my money's worth, and I don't begrudge anyone a single baht of it.

Some more reports for pricing in NEP...
-Not only have most bars raised their heinken prices to 125 baht, they have also stationed staff in the toilets for tips.
-Rainbow does charge Heinken at 125 baht plus they tried to short change me as well.
-Lady Drinks are around 125 Baht now, not 85.
-at least for Voodoo, a waitress that I didn't know, wasn't talking to, didn't do anything for me except for handling of my bill at the end, asked me for personal tips in addition to the tips for the bar.
I don't think it'll be long before they start charging for cover/entrance charge.
On the brighter note, if we super-clued our ass onto the mechanical bull in Carnival on 3rd and not fall, we get a free drink....

What has really pissed me orf lately is that they put the prices up, but can you ever get a drink with coke that is not flat, your damn near paying western prices for a drink and to boot, the ferking thing is flat and tastes like crap. I have been sending them back lately for a non flat one, probably full of spit bubbles.

they give out sodas from the 1 litter bottles in most bars that I've been to. How successful are you when sending it back ? Do they have a pissy attitude when asked ? I have gone the non-alcoholic route when I'm in a bar as well since I wasn't that big of a drinker before anyway. The price hike just made my choice thay much easier.

Personnaly I don't care about the difference in drink prices, butthe bigger issue at Crown Group bars is the decline of service and atmosphere. Years ago these places were the shit and now when you go in there many of the girls are content to do the BKK shuffle and return to their corner of the bar until their turn is up again. These places used to be fun. They have some of the best interiors in Nana (Cascade, G Spot, Voodoo). Now they are a bore abiet at a higher cost. IMHO the decline is due to hands off management over the recent years by the founding father. Let's see if these places ever come back up again.

def. managment problems. places with ex-crown-mamasans have come up again (e.g. carousel)...
I USED to be a regular in Gspot, not anymore. the straw that broke the camels back was when they turned off the a/c's to cut overheads.

I don't know if even super-glue would help, two nights ago I gave that damn bull all I had but it's impossible to stay on for more than 7-8 seconds. The operator starts to turn the knob and speed things up and.. well, if you super-glued your ass on that thing you'd probably just fly right out of your jeans.
I now have two bruises on my chin, a big red bruise on my sternum and my left bicep is a fine combination of black and yellow. After my third fall I could barely make it back to my seat. The next morning I had forgotten the entire episode and wondered if I'd been beaten up by the LB gang at the corner of soi four

I must amend my previous post about Shark bar in SC. Heinekin is now 110 baht as it is apparently in most of SC. Seems they followed NEP in raising their prices as this was not the case last week. Shark is still a fun place though.
