I see this thread has been dormant for a long time, maybe it's time to revive it!
First, let me state that I am an African American that has traveled to Thailand several times, and this is my first post here!
Anyway, two weeks ago I was staying at the Nana Hotel, first night in Bangkok and, decided to check out the new Rainbow 4 Go - Go Club that just opened in Nana Plaza. it seemed to be really busy that night. Just as I was about to go into the door, I was stopped by the Thai doorman, who told me the "Members Only " line. I was taken aback, because even though I heard of this being practiced in some places in Thailand, this was really the first time that I was personally experienced it firsthand.
I have been taking Thai classes here in America for two years now, and I also have been studying colloquial Thai on my own, so I quickly said,
"Arai na?, Cing Loeh? Phuut cing Loeh?" ( What? Are you serious? Is that so? ). Then I look at all the caucasian guys being let through without any problems, and the Japanese men in the Bar. Then I said, " Ruu laeo....Mai Chai krup!" ( "Oh, I see/ I get it...That's not right!" )
The guy look at me laughed, and said in English that I speak Thai very well. For his credit, he did say that he was sorry, that boss tell him to do it. Then he actually directed me to go to the nearby G -spot Go - Go bar. I was still very much pissed, but still managed to say "Khop Kun".
I was still in a foul mood as I appoached the G - spot. I noticed that outside of the G- Spot Go - Go was a sign in Japanese, Arabic, and Indian (?) and English. ( I forgot what the sign said though). Went into the bar with no problems, actually like coming here on my previous trips, there used to be really good looking girls here in the past. But I did not see any ladies that would have made me want to stay there ( maybe the good looking ones were barfined already? ).
Anyway, my shirt looked very dirty in the Black Light in the bar, so, with the recent experience of being denied into Rainbow 4, I decided to just bail on the whole NEP experience for that night.
I don't know if the practice of barring non-Japanese / Caucasions at Rainbow 4 will continue or not, but that is not a place I don't think I will ever go into anyway. I mean, If I'm not wanted because of the color of my skin, why bother going there? I wonder why the Thai owners implemented such a practice in the first place? Are white people and Japanese really better customers?
( I have to admit that I have no problems going into the local Thai bars on and around RCA area. Also, the women there also seem to look ten times better than the ladies at NEP anyway! )
Oh Well.... Haven't been to Long Gun yet...

its possible that thais tink all blacks cum from africa, which automatically means they r up to no good. I read in another forum where 100 nigerians are deported from thailand everyday.
i dont know this for a fact but many thai girls dont want muslims (one barfine- hab to service 3 guys), blacks, or indians as customers. they must hab their reasons. also many gals dont want thai guys as customers too.

Disappointing, but hardly surprising. One of the things that has disappointed me about Thailand and Thai people is their innate racism. Don't get me wrong, I'm not politically correct and love a good-natured laugh about most things, but their bigotism is incredible and - as far as I can understand - based on no logic. Blacks, indians and arabs bad, simple as that. If you ask them why, even the educated thais, they won't or can't elaborate.
Multiply that by the usually piss poor education standards of the women plying their trade in Sukhumvit and..well.. you get the picture.
BTW, has anyone else seen that black guy acting in Thai soap operas on tv?

It's confucian doctrine, that gives the Thais this innate racism as well as face, loyalty to the king etc.

Playing devil's advocate I must say they probably mistook you for an African-African, not an African-American... How old are you, and how do you dress? I bet if you showed them an ID or explained you were American-African they would have let you in.
Most of the African-African's that walk around here stink to high heaven and 1 of them can easily stink out an entire bar, so I can't blame them for not wanting _them_ in... Even if they did let them in they would get so many complaints and nobody with actually _money_ would want to stay there and spend it there...
