Well, I don't have anything bad to say about the staff, the food (in particular the burgers) are no where near as good as they used to be. Due to what I think is a significant downgrade of the burgers I rarely venture in Mango’s anymore. Shame really I used to stop in at least once a week. Now maybe once a month.

Just calling the way I see it. I wrote positive posts about the place last year. I'm sure individual experiences vary. I find the girls act like they are doing you a favor to provide service. I pointed out that the place across the way was filled and Mango had 1 other customer than myself.

I kind of expected this to happen. I heard all the leases at Nana were up Nov 1 and that the folks that have the rights to negotiate the leases are proving a bit of a pain in the arse in regard to new lease deals.

Next month Soi 1 will be closed down for construction of a new hotel. Anyone without a girlfriend should be able to pick one up there for a low price.... As opposed to a couple of years not a lot of alternative beer bars to go to....
RIP Soi 10, Asoke, Clinton Plaza, Soi 1....
With Big Mango closing down nothing is lost....

My scuttlebutt confirms what you are saying. The leases for NEP businesses are being pushed higher as there is talk about turning NEP into condos when the set of leases currently being negotiated expire in a few years. The group that is currently in charge of the leases (Indian) is hoping to squeeze out the last baht before that happens, as it may be their last chance to maximize their profits before the title holders take control of the complex. As such, there is no incentive for the leasers (Indian group) to put any money into the place.

I thought the owners of the land were actually the Indians, and the folks that were currently controlling the lease situation were Thai? I heard the Indian owners bought the land many generations ago long before Sukhumvit was developed, and had been allowing a Thai company to basically manage the property.
I did hear one of the issues was related to the potential future development of the site. Seems a bit strange that right around the corner both plots of land on either side of Soi 6 have been vacant for years. The folks holding the rights to those plots must be asking far too much for them to sit vacant while folks talk of redeveloping plots that are already turning a profit.

It's my knowledge that the land is owned by The Landmark and the Indians lease it from them.
The Landmark thinks Nana is an eyesore and wants to level this area for many years....
