For people out there who don't mind going to places that discriminate, these are are a few the places that, according the previous posts, will welcome you with open arms, especially if you are Japanese or European looking - and for those of us who had the misfortune of being born the wrong race and /or nationality, here are the places to be aware of and possibly avoid.
Long Gun (Soi Cowboy )
Soi 7 Beer Garden
Playskool (NEP)
Rainbow bars 2 & especially 4 (NEP)
Keep in mind that the policies of these places can change over time, depending on the tourist season and how popular the bar is at that time.
Well, dispite all the ones who are ambivalent, condone and even actually embrace and prefer this kind of activity, it does make me happy that at least a few people here agree with me that this is a wrong practice. The excuses mentioned so far (I.e. Smell, etc. ) for blatant discrimination are pretty weak in my opinion, would not even hold water in most Western Industrial countries in the present day.
Anyway, I feel that even If just one person speaks out against practises like this here, whether Thai or not, there just may be hope for true equal rights for everyone in the Kingdom as a whole, yet.

I don't know about that. I spend a heck of a lot of money in those bars. I am one of those idiots who buy drinks for 1/2 the girls in the place, the mamasans, etc. I like to have a good time. But if some guys who smell bad come in and sit near me, I'm likely to leave. I have done that on occasion. I had a guy sit next to me in Angel Witch recently who stunk so bad, I got up, asked for the check immediately and left. It was a crowded night and there was noplace else to sit so I couldnt just move to another seat. Admittedly, that is a very rare occasion that has happened with me.
This thread led me to question if these claims are really true. I decided to do a little research on this and asked some of the girls in one of the afore mentioned "offending" bars their opinion on this matter of racism. These are not my opinions, they are merely opinions of the girls I asked. There were only 3 girls, so this is far from an unbiased or otherwise accurate survey. But at least it's something. LOL.
From what these girls tell me, the Indian and Black customers smell bad many times. (they made a point of telling me it was mainly the Indians) They also tell me the Indian customers are overall cheaper than the westerners. They also claimed that the black men normally have large penises and they don't want to get involved with that. They said "haven't you ever noticed that we will sit down with you and play with your dick? That's not just to make you feel good, that's also to get an idea about the size. Most girls don't want to go with a man who has too big a dick since it can make their pussy sore." They also claimed that Indian and Arabic men are rude.
I asked them about Japanese men. They said Japanese men are good because they are normally small, pay alot of money and are normally also very quick.
I didn't ask them about Western men because I am one. I realize they would have given me a bullshit line telling me how much they love westerners.
So there you have it.
I know that generalizations about any race, religion, gender, etc are never completely correct. But if the girls and their place of business feel it to be true, then who am I to question it? The bottom line is if they thought it was better for business to allow these people in, they would do it. Money is the bottom line. I can't get into the Japanese only places. But I dont complain about it. I move on to the next place that doesn't have a Japanese only sign on it.
You are right, if you don't agree with their policies, you should boycott those establishments. If they start losing money because of it, I have no doubt they would revise those policies. I have been boycotting the Japanese only places for years now. LOL!

Luckily we are not living in Western Industrial countries, this is Thailand and I for one appreciate the fact that there are still folk here with balls to stand against the rising tide that has weakened the west, ie blatant liberalism.
I only wish they discriminated against smokers in the same light....
