Oh well, I have no such problem.
One question is whether screwing a 17yo is inherently shocking or immoral. Personally, I don't believe it is. At least not automatically. Possibly that's because where I come from, the age of consent is 16 - and even that is 'old' by European standards. In most European countries, the AOC is 14 and in some younger still. Quite recently, the Dutch reduced theirs to 12.
Originally most of these laws were calibrated to the age of puberty. The idea, I think, was that a pre-pubertal child would not willingly consent to sex and there must therefore be some element of coercion, but this could not reasonably be assumed of any post-pubertal child.
It was only later that SOME countries decided to get into the business of deciding when people are 'emotionally ready' for sex. Whether they should or not is debatable, but I personally believe such legislation is sheer nannying. Some people are emotionally ready for sex at 14, some still aren't at 40.
However, all that is rather beside the point. In LOS, the laws of Thailand apply (OK, or not - but in this case they DO apply). Sex with an underage girl is strictly illegal and the penalties very severe. Also, in the current hysterical climate about paedophilia (a concept grossly misapplied to sex with a 17yo imho), anyone who does this risks disaster back home as well. It may be that many of us have slept with underage girls in LOS at some point or other (how can you really be sure how old they are?), but I certainly can't imagine doing this deliberately or even if I had a strong suspicion. Absolutely not worth the risk.

You are right!! And I am glad you bring this up (and not me as I would look as the usual smart ass I am). Technically the term paedophilia refers to sex with children, not teenagers. The term for an older man having sex with young teenagers or adolescents is ephebophilia... but I guess few really care to know... so we will likely continue using paedophilia to refer to anyone having sex with someone below the legal age.
For those who like teenagers -and may have been doubting their sanity, be consoled by the fact that psychiatrists do not consider ephebophiles to suffer any mental disorder as paedohiles do.

Just to throw a wrench in this, I remembered reading an article talking about the American Psychiatric Association reclassifying Paedophilia as not being a mental disorder.
