However, the best bars (eg Rainbow) will still have cuties in attendance after midnight - obviously the smaller bars won't...

Definitely some cute slender dancers at Mandarin. Also a happy hour with most drinks 90 baht until 9:30, or so they advertise. A friend and I got there about 9, and were sucking down drinks while enjoying the eye candy. I was keeping an eye on my watch (set to BTS Skytrain time), and ordered my 4th rum 'n' coke at 9:25. The previous three were all 90 baht, but the 4th was 125. The waitress had heard this complaint before, so she pointed at the cashier. I walked over there, but the scam was obvious so I didn't say a word. There were two clocks: the clock where the girls punch in to work read 9:27, the correct time; the clock on the cash register read 9:33, the scamming time.
Well I guess they make some customers, like me, pay an extra 35 baht for that last drink, but I bet they lose more than that in repeat business and good will. No it's not a big issue, but this 6-minute time difference is the kind of mini-ripoff that some customers, like me, tend to remember, and share with others. Mandarin happy hour ends at 9:24.

This place is full of scams. The lady drinks have different prices, and the girls will definitely order the 150 baht one without asking you. I did not see anyone worth the pay bar the time I was there.

and Every time I was there I had to fight the urge to barfine a couple of them... I find they have at least 2 to 3 barfinable girls on any given night (and I'm picky about looks there)

When I was last there, Nov/Dec, there was a decided tendency of many of the girls to want to leave because of problems with the owner, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the lookers left. Look for them in Rainbow 4 (of course).
Surprisingly, the Thai DJ there did some excellent dj'ing as well, and when the 'the boss' took over, I gotta admit, it left much to be desired.
I guess it's going through one of those phases, if HA's observations pan out.
