I've read so many posts on Thai forums that suggest getting the bargirls to laugh with you is so important.
I'm sure this is true. I only wish I could do it better.
I'm not a natural-born comedian, stand-up or otherwise.
I have a few pet tricks, but I'd like to learn more.
I used to pretend to read their palms, but some girls took that too seriously.
I tried drawing funny cartoons, but some girls were such superior artists that I lost face.
Now that I've finally learned to write Thai, I can sometimes catch the interest of an educated bargirl by communicating only in Thai writing. I bring lots of papers, and a sturdy pen. It's a great way to practice writing Thai. I get lots of Thai smiles, but not many laughs.
So, what do you guys do to make the bargirls laugh?
Can I copy you?

TL, don't try to be/copy someone else... it'l never work...
I'm pretty sure, the Thai writing thing gives you more face/credit than trying to be Mr. Big... you're either born for this or it'l never happen...
I'm not too much of a socializer myself, but I try to show them with a big big smile how much I enjoy their beauty, presence, lust, friendship, jokes whatever... works fine for me...

Bring a feather and tickle them. They will laugh either because they are ticklish or because they think it is kind of funny to see you walking around Bangkok with a feather because you want to make girls laugh.
Another thing could be to have a contest. Offer to pay something, like 500 baht to the one that would laugh the loudest. You will have all the girls in the bar laughing with you, maybe even laughing at you as a bonus, in no time.

I don't know about farting or offering money, both seem to have the potential of backfiring....
There is no one way to make a girl laugh, any more than there is one way to skin a cat. You have to try to get a sense as to where each girl's funny bone is (and don't forget, some of them don't have a sense of humor, just like us. So don't sweat it.)
But I do think that one generalization that is more often than not true is that it helps if you can laugh at yourself a little. If you can, the girls will often laugh with you, not at you. Don't take yourself too seriously, and be humble.
And most of the time you will have them protesting sweetly, no no, you not fat, you only pompoie, no no, you not hairy same same king kong, you same baby monkey tilac, no no, you not old man, you have power mahk mahk.
Also as a general matter, TGs are likely to find any comparison of yourself to an animal to be amusing if not funny, especially if you say it in thai. I often refer to myself as a "moo uuan" (fat pig), or a "ngoh khwaay" (stupid waterbuffalo), or a "cha laam" (a shark). These of course are accompanied by the appropriate tummy slapping, retarded look, or big toothed grin and slitted eyes. 
I am not saying any of these will work for you, of course. They are merely meant to illuminate a point. You will have to figure out what works for you in terms of self mockery and animals, etc. Or otherwise. I like your writing thai approach.
All said, I tend to agree with MickTK, you can't be someone else. You have to find what works for you. But it doesn't hurt to try to step out of your comfort zone a little and try on something new. The nice thing about LOS is that you will have LOTS of opportunity to practice whatever your inspiration may be. And if you fail, well, there's always... NEXT!

You just have to be simple, and creative. The girls got a big laugh the night I put on a number, and was hustling drinks. One woman that came in with her husband bought me 2 drinks. A cola, and a tequila shot...lol.
You just have to be creative. Learn to write some good pornagraphic slang. That should have them rolling in the isles laughing so hard.....lol.
