If you have not checked out this bar, you should check it out. Bangkok Beat is on Sukhumvit Soi 7/1 (next to Nana BTS), it was formerly known as Absolut Bar. There are two live bands playing daily.
It opens from 8 pm till late. Happy hours are from 8-11 pm, beers at 100 B; Whisky, Gin and VoBKa at 120 B. There are a couple of 7-foot Sovereign pool tables upstairs, and I hear that the 3rd level with 4 more tables will be opened next month.
Great ambience, and smoke free too for you non-smokers. Of course, you can always pop outside for a puff if you have the urge. Lots of nice freelancers hang out here too, and if you are lucky, you could be playing a game of pool with Antonio Banderas.

And it's owned by a well known BTF member....
I have the same objection as I had with Absolute, it's too damn loud. But that, my friends, is purely my observation.
Also, on Soi 19 a similar place has opened. But at the few times I walked by, it was almost dead.
I think both of these bars should attract Lam Morrison of the Blues Factory fame.
He's in Bangkok on Mondays.

What genre of music do they sing / play ?
I prefer country & western and sentimental / pop songs
I will try to check it out

I think mainly Rock and Pop. Definitely no Country & Western. I was playing pool most of the time, so I wasn't paying too much attention to the band.

BK, Is this the place that used to give patrons the opportunity to come up and DJ on Monday nights until the crowd wanted you to stop? I think there was some sign out side that eluded to it. If they still do that I have a couple of friends that will be with me on my next trip in october that would love to spin there.

You Are Right MCLovin.
We tried to set up a contest between patrons who came up and DJ on Mondays.
They had to register to our Manager prior to play, but we faced so many no shows, therefore it was impossible to deliver quality, so we took the decision to stop this contest.
But it is still possible to DJ during Bands' breaks if you are a good DJ : Just ask our Manager "JJ" when you reach the Bar.

I patronised this excellent venue last month and was lucky enough to be present for 70s night and the band was excellent. Yes, it is a loud place but that's because it's very close to the 'stage'.
My only gripe is with the cocktails. I do enjoy a nice cocktail with my wife but they are served in tall, narrow glasses pack full of ice and I'll be darned if I could taste much alcohol in them at all. A Long Island Ice Tea should normally pack a bit of a punch but the one I had was very insipid so I had a huge beer after that. Can't remember the name.
