We passed through this area today by taxi on the way to Chit Lom BTS.
As far as I could tell, from sitting in a taxi and looking, it seemed normal. Lots and lots of stop and go traffic.
If there was something specific that you were interested in, maybe someone could comment further.

Saphan Kwai is, let's say, atmospheric.
It's cool to see the old neon of a club like Harlem Nights, etc. But the illusion is quickly shattered if you go inside and sit down. Most of the clubs are dingy, have a lone, bored, pole dancer, and a few pimped 'entertainers' hanging around. They really expect lower-class Thai customers (who generally pay a lot more than WE do).
Of course, you may find a gem, but it's no more likely in Saphan Kwai, than in Yannawa, or Rangsit.
I had a card, printed in English, for a club called Susie's, on one of the sois behind Sutthisan Rd. One evening, I decided to look for it, and walked all the way down a VERY long and dark soi. I was able to find the address, but it was just a rather large house. I happened to see an older woman across the soi, so I asked her about Susie's. She told me that it had, indeed, once been a 'special' club for farangs, and was quite busy, but that it had been closed for many years. Susie, according to the old woman, was a woman of some repute, though, and a bit mysterious.
Tantalizing bits of a bygone era.
I am hungry for more of those bits, and will seek them out actively, beginning late August. I'll report here, and hope many of the members who share my interest will too.
