1. All forms of gambling are illegal in Thailand except for the Government Lottery.
2. That being said, there are 9 major casinos in Bangkok plus hundreds of smaller ones, all protected by the cops. There is the illegal lottery paralleling the government one as well.
3. There is huge betting on soccer (football) as well as the muay Thai.
4. The police run around busting small private poker games in private homes for penny ante while all of the above is going on.
5. What you have to appreciate is that gambling used to be one of the royal monopolies auctioned off to the highest bidder periodically by the Crown. At some point the Crown decided to get out of gambling and the present illicit status resulted. Thais see no moral issue involved.
6. The present murmerings about a casino in Pattaya to be legalized before it is set up is a non-starter. People much more influential than Chnonburi godfather Kamnan Poh have huge casino interests to protect in Poipet, Koh Kong etc not to mention Laos and Burma, all of which would be beggared if the Pattaya proposition came to pass.
7. Farang are not welcome at the Thai casinos, so don't bother to try. You want to watch Asians gamble, go to Macao. Or the Malaysian casinos, or the Manila casinos.
8. Two of the major figures in Thai gambling circles died in the last 20 years. These were Poon Kriangkaivat in the 80s and Klaow Thanakul in 91. Both died of lead poisoning, so to speak. It's a rough business.

There are no legal casinos in LOS, the only legal gambling is muey thai, lottery, and horse racing.
From what I understand, most of the illegal casinos are shut down. There are alot of cock fights on the illegal side that are still running. Underground lottery is still in operation, seems some ppl trust the underground game more than the legal one......555

Take a bus or train to Aranyaprathet. Then a 15 minute tuk tuk ride to the border town of Poi Pet. Couple of casinos there.
I have been many time in Poi Pet, but never visitied the casinos.

And don't forget fighting fish. Seen many thousands change hands near beaches on the outcome of a fight. Very boring though, can take four hours for one fight. I always thought they'd be lightning fast...

Is poi pet the closest place to re new your visa for another 30 days while you gamble at the casino. This would be a great help to me If I ever get more then 4 weeks in country.

You can drive all the way to Aranyapratet, park on the Thai Side and after clearing customs walk into Cambodia (across a bridge)
This is Poi Pet. They have about 5 Casinos here, all very large with accomodation. Transportation between Casinos is free by shuttle bus.
Rooms are about 1,000 baht per night.
I stayed at Star Vegas Casino.
Was approached a few Times and asked if I want Lady for the night. I refused as I was too busy Gambling
When you change money for Chips you get a Free food voucher for the continuos Buffet
