Incidentally his family (wife and kids) have always lived in New Zealand. It is one of the reasons he could introduce the new laws. None of the bar/borthel owners - some of the most powerful people in the country - could get at his family.
Anyways, Thailand's immigration laws are ridiculously relax. You can arrive in this country with a US$100 in your pocket and live here for life. It explains why there are so many 'farang khinnok' here. It is hardly surprising that people are trying to tighten the law - if you were a Thai would you really like to see all those creepy farangs in Pattaya hanging around your country?
OK point taken. But its still hypocrisy. It is somehow acceptable for him to do so because he can, and other countries have a more liberal and humane outlook. It stinks.
BTW, although slightly off topic, I lived and worked here for 9 years and still had to jump through hoops every year for visas and work permits. I now work in Hong Kong and China (visiting Thailand for fun every couple of weeks) and the difference in the attitude, the lack of hassle and the politeness of officials is startling. One is made to feel welcome. You could hardly say that about Thai officials (Sorry I have a real downer about Thai officials - too many bad experiences).

I am maried with a visa 3 years at the time. The Visa people always smile and give me food when I get new visa. I think it depends what you give them for attitude. Also they are very bored with 65+ males asking for a visa witha - 20 girl. But anyway AKA close 1 clock did one good thing he took away the money to bribe the police for closing latyer then 01.00. The law is actully 00.00 or 01.00 from the Military days to be open to 06.00 like 4 years ago you had to pay beucase you were breaking the law or not really.

No...and I'm amazed Thai's do to the extent they do....I think it's complete arrogance on most foreigners behalf that they think it's OK. Can you imagine the Brits or Yanks tolerating something like this...NOT A CHANCE

That is what I ment in my previous post. There is always a 'home' to go to..... A few old timers on this forum will remember, this was the after hours place above a gogo in soi Cowboy. Yurune and me were daily regulars..... This was definately after 8 PM.....

You're very funny - what you undoubtedly meant is "...the highly visible nightlife...", and you were most likely really meaning the prostitution part of it.
Prostitution, for lack of a better term, appears to be extremely ingrained in asian culture, so I doubt anyone can 'get rid of it'; bars and venues for drinking and dancing have very little to do with Thailand's perception of a big brothel - besides, with Thais propensity for 'sanook', I doubt anyone wanting to close the 'nightlife' will get a high mandate; though, in all fairness, efforts to reduce the incidents of embarassingly drunk, idiotic, and annoying farangs treating Sukhumwit as their home (albeit few would act that way in their home), *are* welcome... In my view, it's not the 'nightlife' that gives LOS a bad name, it's the noisy, annoying, class-less drunks that do.
YMMV.

I agree with abrak there is a lot of shitty fallangs that spoil it for the decent ones.
Nothing wrong with trying to clean up your country, if the uk goverment were a bit stronger and stop letting in all these asylum people with no hope, they would be praised.
and if you want p4p in los take it home or to your hotel why ( and i've done it) stay on the streets till sunrise pissed silly.
there is p4p in most islamic countries so don't worry.
