Hey guys, cmore here once again. I've noticed lately that myself and many of the brothers have something in common. WE LIKE TO PUT IN OUR TWO CENTS WORTH. Don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that what so ever. It's just that some of us have a tendency to feel so strongly about a subject that we sometimes veer off topic and that's not fair to those that have a genuine interest in the original thread material. So I have taken it upon myself to start this new thread and the topic of discussion, ANYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF. There is no actual subject matter except whatever you feel like talking about. Can anyone put in their 2 cents worth? DOES A BEAR FORNICATE IN THE WOODS? Actually I don't think I want to know the answer to that one. On second thought that is the reason for this new thread after all. To talk about whatever is on our minds. However this forum is all about LOS so hopefully we can center our rants and rave around Thailand and the ladies that we all are so fond of (Do they even have bears in Thailand, other than at the zoo?). Anyway this thread is now open. Feel free to come inside and have at it, and please don't pull any punches. Who's up? Peace

Yes they have bears in Thailand outside the zoos, and some of them even still have their paws.

Hey CJ, nice to hear from one of the top Jedi masters (I thought that was you in that big fight scene at the end of ST: Episode2). My medication must be wearing off again because I think you lost me. I'm going to assume that you were making a joke about some of the not quite as attractive ladies in LOS but you know what happens when you ASSuME so all I'll say is HUH?

No, I meant that literally. There are still wild bears here in LOS, not as many as we would like, but some. One of my friends runs a NGO that among other things, builds wildlife enclosures for bears and donates them to the Forestry Department (so far about Baht 7 Million worth).
One of the reasons why bears are dwindling is that some specialty restaurants make a fortune serving delicacies like bear paw soup. Hence the half joke about bears without paws.
They kill the bears for the paws, of course.
At the moment pangolin smuggling is all in the news. Same destiny for them, the stewpot at high prices. Pangolins look a lot like armadillos, but aren't.
I am not a Jedi. I am a master of Chubbi. This involves years of disciplined beer swilling, pizza feating, and lots of sticky rice. Once mastered Chubbi gives one great wisdom and far sightedness. In fact I can see everything except my own feet.

Hey CJ, thanks for straightening me out on that. I knew that elephants were all over the place in Thailand, but bears too? WOW. I also raise my lightsabre to your friend for trying to do his part to save our furry friends. Now as far as bear paw soup goes, I'm no vegetarian but raise your hand if YUCH just went through your mind. The next time I let my lady order a meal for me in Thai I'll be sure to find out what is in it first. Thanks for saving me from a nice case of the dry heaves Chubbi master. Peace

Normal Thai and Thai-Chinese restaurants never serve such things, this is for the illegal underground wealthy Asian specialty places that serve this sort of thing to old men looking for extra vitality -- like traditional Asian Viagra. Very big with certain Chinese and Korean clientele. And EXPENSIVE. Or so I am told. Much more expensive than the high end Chinese places that serve 16 course set menus for several thousand baht a person, minimum 10 persons. Like the Techapaibul family place at the World Trade Center. (No, no bear paws there.)
There's big money in the illegal trade in certain animals for exotic dining, and relatively little muscle behind the enforcement of the Thai and international (like CITES) laws against this. Some species face extinction because of this (think about rhino horn.) It's like a gastronomic version of the ivory trade.
Most Thais hate the whole idea of this, and good on them for doing so.

BTW guys, our furry friends are not particularly a hobbyhorse of mine. If I were going to get all quixotic about evildoers in SEA I'd probably pick something else to play superhero about.
However, someone asked about bears in Thailand...
Anyone wanting more info can contact Gary van Zuylen of the Thai Society for the Conservation of Wild Animals at 02 248 0405. They have a website at http://www.tscwa.org. They are a registered, tax exempt society and have been active for many years. They actually DO things with the money they collect. Unlike some highly publicized animal rescue groups which are all tail, no teeth.

Hey Mr. Joe, I'm still waiting to hear back from the boss  before I can give you, brother Vinny and anyone else for that matter an update on dinner plans. Hope to have some kind of timetable for you soon. As far as your question Where does one begin without a suggested topic, my answer is Anywhere you choose to begin. None of the brothers need to suggest a topic, they just need to dive right in. One thing about all of us is that we are all a bunch of Nosy Nellies. We love to read other peoples post and add our 2 cents worth and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. The problem begins when someone who feels strongely about the topic being discussed starts to veer off the original subject matter ( And believe me I know I'm the pot calling the kettle black ) That can cause the entire thread to change completely. This isn't fair to the originator of the thread who may be seriously in need of help and looking for answers. So now anyone who feels themselves about to swim toward the deep end will have a place to totally cut loose. Sure they can easily start a brand new topic, but why take up space starting a new topic that I sincerely hope would last for quite a while, but which in all likely hood would probably end up like a lot of other topics. Filed away in the back pages of this forum after only receiving a half dozen replies. Do what you think is right fellow Jedi's, but if you feel the need to vent, here's your chance and with no interruptions. No subject is off limits. If you think that Cmore is full of BS then May the Force be with you because you'll be up against myself and all of my 98 other personalities and those odds are only good at the race track.
