no, just kidding about going today. but,
If I was to go there, I'd get off the hi-way (motorway) just after Bangpagonge and head up Sukhumvit for the rest of the drive. Otherwise you have to come down
from Bangna-Trad, forget even trying that in early evening.
I'm due for another BBBJ here in town, and to pay up for the one I got on credit last night. He he, sure is cool signing off on the bill for a BBBJ (suck me now, I pay you later)...
You have to go much farther South it sounds to me Meaty. It's quite far from Bangna-Trad hi-way, and after that Big-Ass intersection there is literally miles of shophouses, in between other distractions like garages etc.

So LY, if I were sat at the junction of Sukhumvit and the Bangna Trad (turn left for Central Bangna, go straight over for Samrong Imperial Shopping Centre, behind me in the very very far distance is...Emporium) How far forward do I need to go before I will see the delights of this area ? I've driven all the way to the Ancient City on this road, and the crocodile farm, admittedly in the daytime, so is it somewhere in between the crocodile farm and the Bangna/ Sukhumvit junction, or further still ?
And don't worry, the only Meaty part of me is my stomach unfortunately and thats what the name refers to 
I'm trying to get my bearings before making the excuse to the wife later tonight !

ok, you've got to turn left onto the road that connects back to Bangna-Trad and further to Srinakarin.
BTW, I'm assuming you're heading South on Suk. Road from Bangna. You confused me with the "turn left for Central". You won't actually turn will you ??
I've only cum from that direction once, so no idea what the signs read...
No, not between the Croc. farm & the Suk. intersection. but yes the turn off (to head North) is about halfway between.

I actually live in Bangna, so the area to me is easy to remember but maybe my pointers are too vague.
I have a sneaky feeling you are on the Srinakarin road and not Sukhumvit, but i'm not sure !!
Lets imagin we are driving along Sukhumvit road from soi 4, we pass soi 23 on the left, emporium on the right, the skytrain ends where lotus is, and we hit a crossroads with traffic lights, If we turned left we would come to Central Bangna Shopping Mall on our left, after this we would go under the Srinakarin flyover and be on our way to Pattaya.
In the below, 1=bangna trad, 2= sukhumvit road, 3=srinakarin rd, 4=Central banga shopping centre, 5= Emporium or soi 4 direction, XXX=me in my car facing south toward samut prakarn. Ignore the - I couldnt get the format to work without them !

you're on the right track MWSG,
When you're on Bangna-Trat there at Central, you're actually going East, and Pattaya is a 1.5 hour drive
just go past Central Bangna, then slightly past the Srinakarin flyover, then you can turn left into the road that will take you around to Srinakarin Road heading South
from there, just keep driving til you get to the Big-Ass intersection, and only a little farther past it, there you are...start looking for xMas lights.
if you get to Suk. Road again, a very noticeable end where you must turn left or right, no more straight thru... then you've obviously gone too far.

Travel along Srinakarin rd would be easier than using the old Sukhumvit rd. If you know Macro, Carrefour at Srinakarin, proceed straight. Abt 1.5km down you will come across foodland on your left. In about < 1km down the road, you'll hit the big intersection LY is talking about. Its the 1st set of traffic lights along this stretch of road. There is road sign above to indicate turning left to Samrong. Been to that area during day time and notice some of those christmas lights you mentioned.

Thanks for all your help guys, turns out I know this area already, I just didn't realise it was called Samrong !!
I've been to a few MP's with fishbowls, and a couple of alleged TTM places in this area, costs are less and fun can be had, feels a little too thai to hit the bars alone as a farrang though. Whats the score at a barber shop, no haircut jokes !
