He might be on to something several examples of racism in Thailand- both will be based in percieved worth based on money-
Example one : VIP bus to Laos from Bangkok-
Couldnt get on a flight in time and needed to get to Laos for a two month visa at Thai embassy there-
On this bus at 7pm I noticed my wife was the only Thai on board-
Shortly after a woman dressed like an Airhostess came checking tickets-
"she scorned my wife (in Thai ) and said the equalivalent of "this is not a Thai bus - its a VIP bus you not VIP"
My wife was dressed in Military fatigues and sneered at the woman so intensly she immedaitely left.
I though was very pissed off and rang the agent who sold us the ticket - who immediately then rang the bus company- who radioed the driver - who then made the hostess umaware she was my wife- to apologize-
Her worth was more because she was married and "not 100% Thai anymore"
Thats f***ed up rasicm.
Then at aranyaphret on a bus going 100 kilometers that saw me forced to put motor bike in shop and head back to Tapraya- a woman on seeing there were no more seats (she was in charge of proceedings) told aThai man holding his ticket to catch next bus as a farang needed his seat-
Amazingly the man got up nodded at me smiled and started leaving the Bus-
I refused the gesture/order and stood the whole way in order to show not just him but the Thais I was not thinking my worth was to be more than theirs.
And when the police bordered (looking for cambodian illegals) they kicked twoThai men literally and made them squat on the floor and gestured to be seated.
As if a farang in these parts should not have to stand while peasants didnt.
So madfrog Thay are often rasicist against themselves too- but I understand your stories too-

is copy of drivers license accepted by police in your home country when you get pulled over by police for running a red light...............lol.

Harold generally a copy is accepted and the risk to me of loosing it in Thailand especially when out on the sauce far outways anything else. The only thing I carry with me in thailand is the money I need for the night.
If they want to do their job they should start with the thugs in SC
or the blacks in soi 3 or the kiddy porn which does not exist.
Anyway I dont drive but I have a small identity card back home. Its rather difficult to stuff a passport down your front pants all night, back pocket now thats a great idea not.
Jacket also too hot and a money belt now the lady boys just love that.
Anyway im just going to my hotel but the corrupt thai police rather pester falang than work.Same same ekemai bus station the scam has been going on for years. I never let them put their hands in my pocket I show them high in the air for everyone to see only my money, only my money.
You cannot compare thai police to police in your home country.

The guy on Soi Cowboy did NOT die. It is just the Bangkok rumour mill going overtime.
Yes there was an incident with the Midnite security but it was quickly stopped by the Suzie Wong and Dollhouse security going to the aid of the farang.

The reason why I carry a copy of my passport is it's too much bloody trouble to replace it, If be lost or stollen, In Thailand they say you must carry a passport with you at all times, but the British Embassy said you can carry a photo copy with you and will be accepted by Thai law.

Thats a totally different story I think Stickman for one was portraying and im much happier if its not true.

Agreed, pay and forget about it! especially on holiday money!
I am lucky that I didnt get my ass beat by a tuk tuk driver when living over there 
I had a friend visiting from England and we grabbed a tuk tuk during song kran and went about 1 mile and he wanted 200 baht, he figured we were both tourist's, I had a few sang sum/soda's in me and said "f*** you, khun ben kwai!" anyway, this dude was like 5 foot 7 and 145 pounds and put it in park jumped out was screaming (in thai) in my face in the middle of Ko Sarn Road and was about to tear my 6 foot 190 pound ass apart before a MIB broke it up!
Even though I lived there and knew the guy was trying to rip us off, I avoided (what could have been) an ugly situation and always make it a point to never get myself in similiar scenarios 
And regarding the passport copy thing, When I was selling condo's in Bangkok I took my passport to "Bed" to see a DJ from the states (it was expressed on the ticket that everyone would be ID'ed) and I lost it in the taxi coming home, it had my work permit stamp in it and replacing it was the biggest pain in the ass and cost me about $500 when it was all said and done 
Ironic thing is that a week or two later and literally "THE" day after getting my new one w/ visa stamp, I get a call from a farang dude saying he had it (my business card was inside and he didnt notice it at first)

I think that the real tragedy here is that people still stay at the Nana Hotel - what a dump!
I stayed here on my virgin tour and pulled into the Hotel at 2am, just when the drunken hordes had left NEP and were crowding the street. It was more like a riot zone and I thought what the hell have I got myself into? But it only takes a day or 2 to get into the swing of things and to become like them. I've never seen it as busy since then, but these were pre GFC days
