Recently I checked into the President Solitaire where I've stayed many times before and had the worst experience and the last experience I will ever have with that hotel or any hotel in their group.
The rate was quoted, and I double checked, as "all inclusive." I have that in an e-mail directly from the hotel.
As I was only staying two nights, rather than give them a credit card, I paid cash in advance. The change was suppose to be 700THB.
The young lady, who I had not seen before, took the receipt that came out of the printer, drew a bracket on the paper with a pen between the net amount and the amount I gave her, wrote in a percent figure, which wasn't even remotely correct for the amounts involved and told me my total bill was the amount of cash I gave her and there would be no change.
Hell of a system the thai have. They can do anything they want to you and you are not suppose to get mad about it.
Well, I got mad. That sleazy, oily, "front desk manager" came out and tried to defend the girl's actions. The head reservation clerk, who I've met in the past came out, said hello, said something to him, and then, to save "face,"
I assume, he suddenly changed tactics and said, "Oh, I see.
You would like your change now."
"That will work," I said.
Almost everytime I came back to the room there was another letter under the door asking for suggestions on how to improve service and wishing me a pleasant stay, etc., etc., etc., at least 6 of them, which I still have here stacked on my desk.
The maids and room service staff have almost always been excellent, but those who work the front desk are NOTHING MORE THAN COMMON THIEVES and I will NEVER do business with their organization again.
Enough is enough.

I'm afraid I do too. Sanook, you've been moaning about the PS for the last eighteen months, and yet you still go back there.

You ARE the customer you know. And there are plenty of other choices in town.

Given your track record Tengotodo you should really shouldn't be making any comments here or over at pattayatalk.com/forums.

Scobie,
Your absolutely correct as I have been staying at the PS every few months for the last 2 years or so, but I did say it was the last time I would be staying there.
I doubt very much I'll spending much time in BKK in the future as I have pretty much lost interest in BKK and Thailand in general.
Take care of yourself.

I stayed in a Platinum Suite at the beginning of April and it was fanatistic, more space than my condo in NYC. Big comfortable bed, 42" flat-screen TV, a jacuzzi with enough space for three at least, nice sitting room and workspace area, full kitchen with a dining table for two, plenty of closet space. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for more. Good value for money at 4,700B/night for a week's stay. We ate in the restaurant several times and ordered room service on other occasions - very tasty!

It was very guest friendly. I added my TG as a registered guest the day after I checked in without hassle. When several of her friends came to visit, they were asked politely for their IDs, which the hotel security staff held until the next day. She, in her own words, is "shy" and tends to be intimidated by the big five stars on the Suk. Until we tried the PS, her favorite had been the Town Lodge because she felt so at home there, the staff was so friendly. But she didn't have any problems at the PS, even if she didn't interact much with the staff. She particularly liked the spaciousness of the Platinum Suite and the little dining area, "Almost like married,'' she said when we ate or had coffeee in the suite.

Only downside was the slightly inconvenient location at the end of Soi 11. But there's a van or tuk-tuk to take you to Robinson's or other nearby locations and getting a taxi was no problem for longer hauls. Also, I would have appreciated a shower that was separate from the jacuzzi so we wouldn't have to have clamored in and out of the rather steep jacuzzi every time we wanted a quick wash. But again, that was a minor inconvenience.

However, I'm not sure I'd choose the PS if I couldn't get a Platinum Suite. Other comparable hotels with more convenient locations are available for around 4000B/night - it's the jacuzzi and the size of the Platinum Suite that does it for me.

Good post EP.

I had a look at the Platinum Suite when staying in the Premier Suite last summer. I would not trade. The Premier Suite has both a bathtub and a shower and is more than big enough. And the jacuzzi does you will not get the ordinary shower...

The prices have gone up a bit the last years, but it is still a good choice. The location can put you off... but it is easilly walking distance to Suk and the area around have lot to offer (massage, hair dresser, resturants, Q Bar...).

I stayed at the PS and got a Platinum Suite and really liked it. The rates on Expedia and AsiaRooms were pretty good, I think it cost about $120/night. The jacuzzi tub was a bit overrated and only used it once with a girl. The pool is good, the gym is very mediocre but works. I never ate there so I can't comment and bringing girls back is no problem. You can enter from the rear (the hotel, not the girl) if you want discretion. The walk to Sukh. was about 10 minutes, and if you are really hammered, you can swing by a few clubs nearby for a nightcap. Also, I kind of liked eating at the German House, good food. There are always taxis waiting outside. I miss the place just typing this.

Well - this only proves how different a experience can be for different folks at different times. I have also had hotels that I have stayed with for a long time - then just to leave when they screw you. I think many people have read my experiences with Montien Bangkok for instance. Used to be great and I stayed there for many years. Then a change of management and attitude and shitty behaviour. Told them during an arguement over a padded bill (!) that "either you persist in me paying this bill and loose my business forever - or you delete it". They did not fold and of course I have not set my foot again in that piece of shit hotel! Big warning for Montien! Also not at all GF these days.

But back to the topic - I have stayed at more hotels than I can count and I searched for a place to have as "home" when in LOS. Finally I got hooked up with PS and I must say that I like it a lot! They have always been great in their service to me and my friends who I have also brought there. No problems with GF and since I am usually with the same one - I just check her in and no problems at all. I kinda like the secluded location and the 10 min walk to suk is just good for you! And they have underwater music in the pool! How cool is that! I almost drowned when they played a tune I really liked!!

However now I have found a big flat not so far from this nice hotel - so I guess those hotel days are over for now! But as a general point of opinion: you will probably not go wrong with PS- and just as much as I hate Montien - someone will say that it is great place to stay! We all have different experiences - thank god for that!!

The Platinum Suite was better at 3,200 THB a night.
;-)
I like the quality of the rooms, which is why I stayed there even after there were other problems, like a safe they refused to fix until the morning if finally died with all my ID, money, etc., etc. etc., inside.
It is the management that is giving the hotel a bad name.
Thievery seems to be a company policy.

I didn't have any thievry problems of course I stuck everything of value in the safe. I always left about 100 bhat for the maid for two reasons, to get better service and so they'll like you and not steal. One taxi regular there was bitching about the management there but I didn't follow what he was saying. In any event, I really liked the place and the neighborhood. I am also not one of those picky people that freaks out when there is something slightly wrong with my room, especially when I travel overseas. I also always got a kick out of the doormen saluting you and the elevator guards, they were always so enthusiastic so I gave them good tips when I left.
