Hi chaps,
Whats the joiner fee situation, it seems to me that 90% of hotels, will not state whether a joiner fee is applicable or not, on the website.
I don't like taking the risk without knowing
I know there is a list of guest friendly hotels on this site.
Will booking a double room always solve this problem?

1) No, because they expect that their guests don't bring hookers in the hotel
2) Write them first.
3) Yes, there is. However, status can always change. See 2)
4) No. Not always. Hotel A staff are more clever than other hotel B staff. Some require you to register a permanent guest.

If you ask, 90% say there is a joiner fee, but the same 90% do not charge it. At least for most 5 star hotels.
Act confident, walk in with the girl and you will most likely get the door held open for you and NOT her but no money asked. Most.
Exceptions: Novotel Airport after 8 pm always charge. Novoptel Siam sometimes.

Depends on each hotel and I think it best to stick with the proven guest friendly hotels instead of taking one reservation girl's reply. In many cases the reservation dept do misunderstand and advise no problem, when you must keep the same guest throughout your stay.

Is there a list for Pattaya, Phuket?
How do you guys sort that out?

I do not believe it is that small of a list. I have stayed at several hotels and have never been charged a 'joiner fee'.... but then again I never ask and I just bring the lady in.
Landmark will charge you if you take her to the Brekkie Buffet (the menu charge for the buffet) or if you bring her as a guest to the Executive Lounge but other than that they do not care if you bring a lady to your room.
One thing that helps in the better hotels is to reserve for two and tell the staff when you check in that your partner will be joining you later. This also works in the PRC (if you bring her in before the curfew) and in HK. One caveat though, some hotels do charge a higher rate for two guest than they do for one especially if it provides brekkie...

this is the #1 reason I stopped staying at Poo Cum hotel in Chiang Rai
they are right next to the action & expect a joiner fee, idiots

Thats the ironic thing. In Pattaya and Phuket, most of the mainstream hotels are not guest friendly and charge 500-1000 joiners.
