A suite at the Banyan Tree is pretty impressive, as is the Thai restaurant in the hotel. Most definitely not a TGF-friendly place.

kev29ie: The Oriental is very nice hotel. I also like the Sukhothai. If you stay at the Sukhothai and want to treat your wife to an awesome experience, then spend on the speciality suite like the garden, Deluze resident or the awesome but.. very expensive ($2K US per night) Sukhothai suite. I've never stayed in the "sukhothai Suite", but my friend did and said it was nice. Good thing his company paid for it!! ha ha ha ha!! http://www.sukhothai.com/rm_suites.htm Not sure where you are going to book the hotel from, but planetholiday is a good site. http://www.planetholiday.com/ph-aspx-city_id.9395-db-hoteldatabase/PHCOther.htm Have a good time in bkk with the wife.

I spent about 30 days last year at the Sheraton Royal Orchid and it is half the price of the Oriental. The Oriental is VERY stuffy (When I went to visit my friend they would not let me into the hotel because I had shorts on) and expensive. If you go to the Sheraton ask for Nimit Boonporn, he is very helpful. I had a suite facing the river and it was beautiful. The hotel is very guest friendly. I will stay there again in April. If you need more help you can PM me. Teach

I recommend Shangri-La, you may be able to get a huge discount via Priceline. I booked for 3 nights at the end of Feb with a bid of $82 USD (sucessfully bid $65 twice previously). With Golden Circle membership (free), you can upgrade to a suite for an additional $25 USD per day, if one is available. Last December, I was able to get a multi-room suite for $100/night. ($65 PL bid + $10 tax + $25 suite upgrade) listed at $330/night on the hotel's web site. Your wife might enjoy their Ayuthaya day trip, where you leave early via bus, see the ruins and royal residence, then return down the river on the hotel's luxury boat. Great seafood buffet en route. Costs about $40/person, as I recall. And, if you decide to dump the wife midstream, the hotel is guest friendly.

For my money the Penninsula has the best rooms of any of the properties mentioned... the Sukohthai's are close, but they don't look out over the river.

I just saw a special on the Penninsula....You can land your helicopter on the top of the hotel and go right to your room, without ever going through the lobby. No more walk of shame. Can I borrow your helicopter? Teach
