I think you're right. Bangkok has too many hotels already. The trend I've noticed is the addition of new smaller rooms that go for the same rate as the original standard rooms. The former standards then get reclassified as deluxe, superior, or some other bullsh_t name for what's really a tired old room. It's reverse supply and demand. The more rooms that get added, the more expensive they are. Yeah, I'm talking about Dynasty Inn.

Thanks for the confirmation. I sent an e-mail to Bob but hadn't gotten a reply back yet. I thought I read awhile back that this hotel was going to be a higher end 5-star hotel class.
If there are more hotels, that would mean more rooms available. And wouldn't that mean better deals to be had with this or other hotels for rooms ? Or is this not a good logic in the land of Thai ?

One would think that more rooms mean better deals, but I stand by what I've seen. Newer rooms are smaller and go for the prices of their larger older counterparts. I've experienced this in Pattaya too. Sabai Lodge, nice place, just built more rooms and the prices have soared.
Maybe the growth of tourism is outpacing the creation of new rooms and hotels so prices go up anyway. Maybe it's just the returning visitors who always want to stay somewhere new. I really don't understand it. I think us p4p tourists look for different hotels as often as we look for different women. We really are a bunch of ramblers.

can't be any reports. but I can tell you what I know and what I have seen.
hotel will be boutique style.
rooms will be functional and nicely decorated, similar to the grottino residence. thats what I remeber from the designer drawings and samples.
there are going to be suites. last thing I heard was they will be themed.
there are going to be even bigger suites.
standard rooms will be in the baht 2'000 range.
that's what I remember.
