I have stayed at the Manhattan a couple of times before and always found it to be on the high end of satisfactory. No problem with guests, and the rooms were usually not too bad.
Just wondering if anyone has stayed there recently. Has the guest policy changed? (I know to book double.) But more specifically, what is the deal with the construction going on?
Is it too bad to stay there or is it bearable? I think I read it is ok/quiet on the front, is that right?
When making a booking, can we request a room on the non-construction side? (I mean a real request, not one of those you turn up and they can give you the double-bed "tomorrow" requests.) If so, any tips on a good web site to use to book the Manhattan?
(I am headed to BKK on Oct 8th)

Stayed there in June and plan to stay there again in November. Very good location to Sulkumvit, good breakfast buffet and 24 hour diner. Had no problem taking TG to room. No extra charge. Requested a room opposite the construction zone and was granted my wish.

There is construction going on both sides, at least when I was there in March and based on info I saw on this site. I stayed on the side facing Soi Cowboy, the quieter area, but I heard noise until midnight most nights. It was not as bad as the noisy side, but loud enough for me. There is no quiet area away from the construction. If you book a double, there is no fee.

Thank you for the lowdown. When did you request a room opposite the construction, when you were booking (online?) or when you got to the hotel?
