You can't go wrong with either hotel, particularly having those Starpoints. I stayed at both properties last June and will do the same next month. I have always been able to use points to get at least one free night at the WGS.
The WGS does have some wonderful masseuses who provide in-room massage treatments. The SGS does not offer in-room massages, but it is easy to ring up an agency and arrange for a masseuse to go to your room. My last evening at the SGS, a masseuse from Teen Massage came over and it was a fine time.
Security at both hotels is very good and discrete. Guests have always been confirmed by the front desk and then escorted to my room (I have always done this before 10 pm, so I would not know how late night arrivals are handled).
The pool at the WGS is perfectly adequate, while its counterpart across the road is beautiful. Find a quiet lounge chair and have a Singapore Sling.
The WGS has a fine Executive Lounge. You really could have all three meals there if you were so inclined. Provided you book a high enough room category, the SGS offers free drinks from 6-8 pm in, The Library. One of the waitresses looks so much like the actress Ziyi Zhang. A great way to spend a few hours.
Have a wonderful time. I can't wait to get back...

I have stayed at both of these places many times. Both are fine places to stay, with no girl hassles at all. I think the security at SGS is a bit tigher, as they won't let a girl get up to your room without calling you. I think in the westin the can come up on their own. Both never take a girls ID if she is with you.
Walk of shame..who really cares. But although the walk might be shorter at the SGS, you will have security guys all over you for the short walk, where as the WGS they keep their distance. I am not really concerned. A good tip to the security at the SGS will make them smile at you the whole trip, and even go get you some party supplies from 7-11 late a night.
Two small things I like about the WGS, is that the beds are more comfortable then the SGS, and I like how they top you up with ICE early in the evening. Important for me. Room service seems to be quicker at the WGS.
Like Hyper said, Rivas IMHO sucks. I stop in there for a starter drink when staying at the SGS. Same old chics there milking their glass of wine. None that would make me go WOW. Definately looking for the easy Biz guy f*** so they can go home early with a score.
Anyways, both great, each having their little pros and cons.

Stay at The Sheraton. It offers a better deal all ways around.
Huge, immaculate rooms; great breakfasts; sumptuous lunches; and the best dinners "this side of the Bamboo Curtain".
I have never had a problem with any of the hotel or restaurant staff and for the money you can't beat Sheraton/Sukhumvit.
This particular franchise is owned by an Indian Sikh of Thai nationality and he KNOWS the hotel business!

Can't go wrong with either hotel (I prefer the Westin--they just seem nicer). I've stayed at Westin many times and the Sheraton 3 or 4 times. Sheraton is marginally better and everything said above is consistant with my experience. However, on the SPG website the Westin is much less expensive--not just $5 difference. For some reason they clasify the Westin as a category 2 hotel. I have no idea why... it's as nice as any Westin I've stayed in. The good part of that is it only requires only 3-4k starpoints for a free nights stay.
As for security, sometimes they take IDs and sometimes they don't--both hotels. I wish they would have taken ID's at the Westin the night I got drugged and robbed. Would have saved me $1000.

You will not have any problems bringing two girls up to your room at the westin. I have brought 2 and 3 at a time up. Once I did try to bring 5 up at once, but security said I could only bring two. That was the only time I ever had to even talk to security.
Outside visitors wont be a problem..I dont think security even checks them

For information: I have just booked 4 nights for end Oct in Sheraton Sukhumvit for $149 per night. It is even cheaper than Westin or Royal Orchid. Fully prepaid non-refundable special rate on starwood website.

I dont like to agree with hypershade, but here I will have to agree. I have been to Riva's, once simply because of convenience. Quoted Rates of 4800bht and 5500 bht for ST. Women dont really negoiate because of the fat, bloated businessmen staying in the hotel. And when I say fat, I mean like Chris Farley/Fat Bastard from Austin Powers, fat. AVOID RIVAS.

Stopped in Rivas the other night for a quick bite to eat with a girl. The place had more FL's then I had ever seen in the past. I think most of these girls use the place as first pit stop to snag some biz guy who can't stay out late, then if they have had no success, or got their first ST, then they move over to CM2 or Spassos.
All these FLs appeared to be hardened Vets that would give you the mechanical sex act. I would have more fun getting a 1000 baht oil hand job at a MP.

If I was going to pay a non-refundable rate, I would go priceline, where I paid $70-75/night last year on 4 different occasions. Got the Westin every time but once, and that was the JW Marriott. Westin put me on the executive floor one of the times, but I did not try the lounge, if they had one. Sometimes the Sheraton comes up also.
