Syn: AP's not as close as you think. It's past Pegasus and even past Glow. An easy walk for us, but your BG in heels, will need a cab. Nice place though. ps: I guarantee your cabbie won't be able to find it. Keep their phone # handy. wj

I am actually booked in this place at the moment as a reserve pad - but not actually staying there !!

It is a pig to find - enter Soi 23, turn right at Italian Restuarant called Guye.... (something) and then immediately left at Glow. Taxi driver won't find it - guaranteed. It is about 10 minutes walk from Asoke BTS.

My first impressions were ok, but I have since changed my mind. My room smelt, there was no shampoo etc, the shower curtain fell off with just a small pull, and I don't actually feel comfortable here - difficult to explain, but I just didn't click with this place.

Positives are good room rate and located a short walk from Cowboy. If Cowboy is your thing then great - but if not, I have stayed in many better places. Having said that - to be fair to Admiral - if you are on a budget then the quality for that budget is good - but just not my cup of tea. Even though GP (Soi 11) is a shithole compared to Admiral, I would choose GP over Admiral just for the vibe I feel and being comfortable with location.

Rome: I has to disagree with you about the AP. In Dec I went from the Sheraton to the Westin to the AP (ran out of starpoints). The Sheraton is at a different level, but I though the only things better about the Westin were the location, the lobby, and the hostesses and cocktail waitresses in the lobby. I was pretty impressed with the AP and will be back. As far as the stinky room, you must have had a flatulent smoker in there before you, cause the place is brand spanking new. You should've changed rooms. We're obviously on different income levels if you're keeping a $60/nite 'back up pad' though. I've stayed at 4 of the Presidents and Somerset Lake and the only one I like better is Pres Park, because of the multiple pools and the Capitol Club. Once again the location is a bit of a bitch, but I like 23. To each his own I suppose. Everybody else seems to love Darjeeling. Not me. wj

Any new info?
Thinking about staying there myself in June/July and wondered how it is.
Been at the Admiral Suites before but the pool is way to small there.
Any info would be appreciated.

I notice you are Norwegian, so I could write this in your lingo... Not new info, but I stayed 3 nights there last summer.

- great room (I had a 60 sqm. suite for around 2000 baht a night)
- good size pool, but very ordinary - plastic sitting chairs etc. Not sure about the sun etc. I was alone the one time I used it. What put me off a little bit, there was no way (that I found) to get some serving (drinks, food) by the pool. One can always stock up on the 7-eleven.
- breakfast, had it one day: Select from some standard dishes from a menu. OK, I guess.
- location: That is the main drag about it. If you are a Soi Cowboy or Glow regular it could be nice, I guess, but it is a bit of a walk to get to a sky train and almost impossible to get a taxi to get you there if you do not know exactly where it is.

If size of room is important, stay there. Otherwise, there are many better options for the same price. My 50 cents.

Mr Wackyjacky,

Noticed your comment back in april 09, and your comparison of Admiral Premier to President Group Apart and Somerset Lakepoint.

I stayed in both Grand President and Royal President before, I am thinking of booking probably Admiral Premier or Somerset Lakepoint.

Can you advise of the negatives of Admiral Premier and Somerset Lakepoint, particularly Somerset. I believe location of either property is a fairly long stance to the Suk Road and train Stations.

KT: I don't have much new info to add to what's already been said. I haven't stayed at the Somerset Lake in maybe 4 years. Hard to know if they've refurbished. You might want to check the reviews on 'Trip Advisor'. Anyway, I liked it a lot. Rooms are big. Nice fittings and furnishings. It's way closer to Suk than the AP. Pool was bigger than AP, but no sun. Breakfast was always cramped and crowded. Gym's better. AP's closer to SC and newer. In that $60 range I like Pachara Suites & Adelphi Grande better. The I-Style on 22 looks good too. They're all bright, shiny & new. I picked up the Park Plaza for that price in Nov too & it's way way better. I'd only do the Sl or AP if they were below $50. The 2 or 3 times I stayed there, I only paid around $40. BTW, it won't work for me, ('cause the deal goes away in Nov) but the 'best deal in town' has to be the brand new Solo2 as the 1000 baht 'Mystery Hotel' on WOTIF. It's $120/nite for some reason, on Expedia & Orbitz. wj
