I was told that farangs were not at all welcome in the strip on ratachda as the area is devoted to asians? The hotels were indeed full of aisans with very few farangs but I wonder about how off limits this area is for us farangs?

[It only made me more interested in some ways]

Hi Guys,

I would like a change of scenery on my next trip and thinking of giving Pallazo a try...I'm not to concerned about being away from the go-go /beer bar scene. I am a little worried about Jacob's comment above though....Is it true that farangs are not welcome? Do they treat you like shit or something?

Regarding Hotel, Im assuming it is still GF....so they take ID's as well? Could anyone tell me how far it would be to walk to places like Soi 4 (where all those clubs are), Dance Fever, and Hollywood?
Would getting a Taxi to places like Khao Sarn & RCA be more difficult (and longer) than Sukhumvit? I have looked on the map, but it is difficult to tell without knowing how busy certain roads can get...hence Im relying on some experienced chaps

If anyone has any other up to date info that would be good...ie: is there a money exhanger, convenience store close to the Hotel?
According to various agency websites, the Hotel is pretty close to department stores (I think), so maybe this would be the closest.

Any other info would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance guys

Skippy

I am a little worried about Jacob's comment above though....Is it true that farangs are not welcome? Do they treat you like shit or something? No, this is not true, some of the MP's have a surcharge but I have been welcomed in all as recently as 3 weeks ago! The Hotels are certainly no problem.

Regarding Hotel, Im assuming it is still GF....so they take ID's as well? Could anyone tell me how far it would be to walk to places like Soi 4 (where all those clubs are), Dance Fever, and Hollywood? To far to walk!!! But no far by the Subway which is a 3 minute walk from the Hotel. You take the Subway to Sukhumvit Station (about an 8 minute journey), then swap to the BTS to go to Nana Station which is only 1 stop away

Would getting a Taxi to places like Khao Sarn & RCA be more difficult (and longer) than Sukhumvit? YES, Traffic in this area is bad but the Subway makes the location ok. It can take 45-90 minutes to get to the Suk if Traffic is bad!

I have looked on the map, but it is difficult to tell without knowing how busy certain roads can get...hence Im relying on some experienced chaps

If anyone has any other up to date info that would be good...ie: is there a money exhanger, convenience store close to the Hotel? Yes, both within a few meters, directly opposite
According to various agency websites, the Hotel is pretty close to department stores (I think), so maybe this would be the closest. Walking distance to a huge shopping centre which has Carefour as an Anchor Tenant and one stop in the Subway to Fortune Centre.

Any other info would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance guys

Oz & quack quack - Thank you very much!

Oz, when you say it would be to far from Soi 4...are we talking 20 minute walk? I don't mind a walk so thought I'd ask...on the map it doesn't look TOO far..but hard to tell

I often had trouble getting a taxi from Suk (manhattan) to Khao Sarn due to busy traffic (some would ask for 150baht)...so was just wondering If I would have the same issue at Ratchada. I don't go there much so no big deal.

quack quack - The asian scene doesn't phase me too much....how was the breakfast by the way?

What is your personal opinion on these two Hotels in terms of quality, service and guest policy...which would you choose? Sounds like they are on par...except maybe more traffic noise at Siam.. I am used to staying at Manhattan which as we all know is getting a tad worn (but I think still good value). These Hotels certainly don't look any worse. I'll be staying 17 nights....so hopefully I'll make the right choice.

One thing I noticed was that Pallazo offers internet connection in the room (only dial-up) but better than a kick in the ass.......maybe

I was able to get a little bit of info from my search...but limited.

Cheers guys
Skippy

I have stayed in Siam Beverly a few times and am going to stay in Pallazo next week. Guess I should participate in the discussion also.

Walking time from SIam Beverly/Pallazzo to Soi 4 is definitely more than 20 minutes. I strongly advise you not to do it. After all transportation cost in BKK is not high, save your enegry for other more exciting activities - such as backgammon, lawn bowling....

Breakfast quality in Siam Beverly is average. Edible but not luxurious. The only hotel breakfast you should avoid is Grand Hotel (opposite Poseidon).

Siam Beverly though is on the main road, surprisingly I never find it noisy. Each time I was given the room facing Ratchada, I was hardly bothered by the traffic outside. In fact, I was bothered more by hotel customers banging the door outside my room.

If you wonder why I switch hotel in my upcoming trip. My internet agent replied me that Siam Beverly is fully booked.

Staying in Pallazzo, I think that a trip to Mirage is inevitable. Oh yes, I think the recently opened Colonze 2 is also one block away.

Why is it always the week before I go seems slower than the week I am actually there?

Is Ratchada a nighmare when getting Taxi's Cat? The traffic looks terrible on that road so wondering if it would be faster to walk to the lower soi's!

I was reading a few reviews last night on an agency website and a few have complained about cockroaches at Siam Beverly....have you experienced these? I HATE cockroaches...especially those big big fat ones.
Another mentioned Pallazo was not family friendly due to the location. Now, I don't have a family so that doesn't bother me...but I didn't want a Hotel like Nana if you know what I mean.

I really can't decide...It would be good to hear your experiences at Pallazo. It looks kinda respectable?!

Skippy, never walked it but I would guess a good 30 Minutes perhaps a bit more. From memory the Taxi's from the Suk usually turn up Soi 21 to get there. The Traffic is very bad heading towards the Suk during working hours and till 8 or 9pm. Coming from the Suk takes about half this time!

The Pallazo is out the back of Rong Ram Emerald. No idea about pricing but the smells coming from the restaurant are heavenly. 2 min walk to Subway & Caesars. Mirage is out the back there too.

Looks damn reasonable. 4 stars "Luxury" by these folks.

I did not see cockcroaches when I stayed in Siam Beverly although I won't be surprised they exist.
For Palazzo, I can't be so sure as next week is my first time there. But it looks more respectable than Nana from outside.

Your 1st question. It is very easy to get a taxi in Ratchada (no matter what time of the day). But it is very difficult to get the taxi moving 100 yards in less than 30 seconds (no matter what time of the day).

Still do not bother to walk to Suk, just take the underground train.

Thanks Cat.....I was more referring to the time it would take to walk from Beverley to Ratchada Soi 4, Hollywood etc... but even that sounds like it's too far.
Hope Palazzo goes well.....
