Supposedly, the MIB collect on this day, but walking down the street I wonder can they be that stupid. Why won't they show on say Wednesday for a surprise collection raid? Where are the MIB the rest of the week not to see the stalls? This is truely bizzare, but great for walking.

What makes me reflect a bit though is how merely 20.000 participants in a congress can overcrowd all hotels in BKK which should altogether be able to swallow that amount easily??

For those that think july is slow. I am trying to get a room in BKK for tonight 7/19. I am in pattaya and decided to go back up to Bkk a couple days early. So far all hotels are full. Majetic, swiss etc. I am sure I will find a place but for travelers arriving from foreign destinations I stick by my standard recomendation, book your first night well in advance. And unless you want to spend several hours checking hotels try not to leave too many days without a reservation. Last week coming down to pattaya I had the same problem several hotels fully booked.

Based on adivce from bro's in another forum I came without reservations fro anything other than the first night. CAme back to BKK from pattaya. Took 4 hours to get a room in BKK but they only had one night. Today I have spent another 4 hours trying to find a room fOR less than $6000 baht. Maiestic, Swiss Grottino, Bel air princess, Sheraton, Westin all full. Travel agent spent 2 hours trying various hotels all full finally said sorry I no can help you. LAndmark has rooms for $139 us plus tax and service. Jw marriot for something like 135 plus tax and service. Looks like I might be at one of those but both say they can only gurantee one night. 8 hours in the last 2 days trying to book rooms. Not my idea of a vacation. THIS IS SLOW SEASON????

Yes, this is low season.
Give me 5 minutes, or maybe 10 minutes and I can give you a listing of rooms available. Plenty availability. Can not belief that a travel agent is not able to book you anything. Might they be trying to ring up a large commission??

This is a decree I believe from BMA that one day a week is spent cleaning the place up before the rat and roach population take over. Hence stalls are not erected and the place is given a good clean.
Doesn't seem to have affected the local vermin too much.
