Don't know about ShangriLa, but datyed in Dusit a few yera ago. Female o/night no problem. She stayed several nights. THe traffic in the reception area was such that I think noone noticed or if they did it was OK.

Smegma, would you say that the Shangri-La is much nicer than JW Marriott/Westin Grande and the likes? It is going at an amazingly low price at Priceline and I'm wondering if it is worth going there with the transportation hassle to Sukhumvit etc...

Yes, it is much nicer than JW Marriott and Westin Grande.
Transportion? As a tourist you should have some leeway with scheduling so as to avoid rush hours.
BTW, my first choice (until I moved here) was always the Regent.

As I said before no problems in any "real" 5* hotel. And they do not ask you for any surchage. But they stop the girl and get her ID is they suspect she has just been recently employed by you.
At the Regent, walking through the lobby exposes you to plain open view of many people if going in at busy hours -between 7 and 11pm, where the lobby has many people having a drink. So you may not like the looks on you if she looks a bit trashy. But you may not care.

The Shangri-la is one of the best hotels in the world, not just the best in Bangkok, & has won many such awards. I stayed there on my very first visit to Thailand, about 3-4 years ago (with farang girlfriend at the time, so do not know about bringing TGs back for the night).
It is definitely the best hotel I have ever stayed in (I think the bathroom we had was bigger than my entire apartment in the UK!). If you're feeling rich, you can even get helicopter transfer from the airport to the roof of the hotel.

JJJ thanks for reply...ahahah after almost one year time..
In the end me and friends stayed in Landmark,not really guest friendly,I mean when they didnt put attention we smugled ladyes/LB's inside,but sometimes we paid one extra bed(1000 if I remember) for 2-3 guests.

Airline discount...
I checked with Shangri-la reservations and they also quoted me and unbelievable airline employee rate of $40/night for 2 people. This was also for the month of August 2003. I could hardly believe what I heard, a 5 star hotel for $40. I'll put up with the hassle of catching a cab or the BTS to Sukhumvit.
I hope those of you in the industry can take advantage of that rate.

The part of the Shangri-la (or the Shang as the locals affectionally call it) one should be stabled in is the Krungthep Wing. This is newer and has somewhat more spacious rooms with seperate showers and broadband internet access.
As far as lassies are concerned, there is no need to be concerned -- as long as one has booked a double room. The night door man usually just inquires whether one would care to lodge the young ladies ID at reception or not? Of course, if he sees one on consecutive nights with the same lassie this question is not repeated.
In the morning, I generally chose room service, but one may also decend to the breakfast buffet with one's BG guest. This can amuse the some of the American lady tourists, but the Japanese sensibly ignore it. Of, course a number of their own countrymen are usually breakfasting with their overnight guests (including lady boys). On the other hand, the staff are very polite and by no means look down on single gentlemen with sleeping partners. Is one supposed to sleep alone in the world's most friendly country? Disgraceful. I should think not!
The Shang is altogether a jolly good stable for its huge size.... and right now the hotel is certainly offering some wonderful deals.
