Since I stayed Hotels like Ramada Tawana, Mandarin, Siam Novotel - which are not guest friendly as we all know. But I managed there with "Guest". Only once I paid Joiner fee in Novotel, In Ramada I did not and Mandarin booking was made my girl over phone as Doubled.
Will Try my luck again. Thanks Mel Gibson - Pray for me.... wish me a good time with crap people & attitude.

This place is a toilet. I would throw a dart at a list of all other available hotels and you will surely find a better place. UHG! I still get pissed about the night I spent there.

Prabal,
I suggest you stay away from the Ambassador. If you like a good value hotel, try the Swiss Park (has some rooms renovated already - ask for a high floor room). Or try the Manhattan, both cheaper and better and in the same area. Not to mention you will have to pay joiners fees at the Ambassador.

Hi Apollo,
As a matter of fact the query was not for me. I will not be staying in the Ambassador. As for Swiss Park I have stayed there previously. Recently,though not explicitly put across is out of bound for Indians. One of the BTF members who happens to be a close friend of mine and staying in Swiss Park confirmed the same. So most likely to be staying in Manhattan again.
By the way if you get a girl through one of the house keeping guys in Ambassador, there is no joiner fees. The guy obviously expects tips.

Ambassador Hotel has high hopes for upgrade

The Ambassador Hotel hopes its 500-million-baht renovation campaign will help revive its position as one of the leading hotels in the Sukhumvit area.
"We want to re-position this hotel as one of the leading hotels in the Sukhumvit area, just as it used to be 15 years ago," said Michael Perdikaris, the hotel's recently appointed general manager.
The renovation, launched in July and expected to be completed in mid-2009, is the first in the hotel's 30-year history.
Mr Perdikaris said the renovations would help upgrade the Ambassador to a four-star hotel from three now, as well as eventually lead to a 30% increase in revenues over the next several years.
Total rooms of the tower and main wings would increase to 820 from 760 now, with the service apartment wing also expanded to 140 units from 69.
"There are many new hotels coming up in Bangkok and the existing players are also moving to upgrade. The competition in the market is very tough," Mr Perdikaris said.
The Ambassador would also be rebranded and shift management to a global hotel network to help strengthen its customer base.
Mr Perdikaris, a veteran of the Accor group with former positions with the Novotel Hydro Majestic Kuala Lumpur, the Novotel Bangkok and the Sofitel Palm Resort in Johor Bahru, said he was confident that the Ambassador could regain its position in the competitive Sukhumvit market.
The renovation focuses on updating the hotel's image to a more contemporary Thai style, he said.
The Ambassador would continue to target both business convention travelers and tourists, as well as looking to expand to the corporate and airline markets, Mr Perdikaris said, adding that the hotel has also launched a new staff training programme.

Is Mr Perdikaris fighting an up-hill battle? If trying to attract professionals, I know my boss wouldn't even want to be seen near this district...during the day. Is Sukhumvit worth spending 500 million on?

Let's see. 960 rooms and apartments. Occupancy rate: 60%, say?
Increse the room rate by 1000 Baht (from 3* to 4*).
60% x 960 rooms x 1000 = 576 000 Baht/day increased revenue.
Over the year, 200 million Baht, say.
They'll cover their investment in three years. Seems doable.

Your math seems reasonable. The real issue is that this place has been a dump for at least 12 years that I can attest to with poor service, scary rooms, attempts to charge joiner fees, bad food, backed up toilets and uninvited LB's showing up at the door (not to mention the occassion fire). Can they overcome those perceptions to become a desired destination. Me for one will wait a long time to see.
