I normally stay at Landmark, but their prices are now to steep - their Lounge is nice, but I got about ˝ price at Grand Sukhumwit by Sofitel, just behiond Landmark, which I opted for. Is this a bad decision?

I have just tried to book the Landmark for this weekend.
Their Manager's best quote (as I am a frequent patron) was 6550 per night for a Superior room with two breakfasts.
At the Conrad I was offered 6000 for the same. JW Marriott was 5000 w/out brekie. Both of these hotels are far superior to the Landmark (although the Conrad is a little out of the way at Lumpini Park).
The Landmark is quickly dropping from my Christmas List...
EDIT IN: Well for my return from Chang Mai I got 5250 for a Superior Room and two brekies on the night of the 8th.
The reason I got this is because I slipped in a back door (using the Best Rate Superior booking link) and was able to get the 24/7 package for one night instead of the standard two nights.
The GM will be hearing about my booking issues once I get there Thursday...

I loved staying at the Landmark, nice hotel and wonderful location, plus those lovely Bell girls to greet you.
However I would not pay over 3500 to stay there, so with all the rate hikes I now look to go elsewhere on the Suk.

Majestic Grande makes a nice alternity imho
better rates (around 3KB), good quality, totally GF
Full of Arabs though in August
The Davies is also nice with good rates from asiatravel.com
slightly out of the way though at the (wrong) end of Soi 24

that's why I am renting a condo in dec. instead of staying at the landmark. I get 4X the space for 60% of the cost and will be located on soi 13 - ~ 200 yards north of sukhumvit.
