It seem that nowaday, it is cheaper to book from the hotel directly rather than from those hotel booking website. I did the same for Grand President (soi 11) and found that the price is also cheaper.
BTW, bro Sai Tai, are you sure that the sofitel Asoke residence is guest friendly. If so, will also like to try the place.

sai tai, yep prices do seem to vary, I cross checked ( not dressed) a few of the Aussie card offers against the US ones. They are definately charging our US brothers more.
I doubt there is anything stopping a Euro or US citizen purchasing an Aussie card.

The pages for both the asia and australia advantage plus programs do not let you directly purchase a card. You have to fill out an inquiry form and provide a phone number. A sales agent will call you.
The Euro version of the program (Favorite Guest) allows direct purchase online by credit card. But like you said, it appears this program does not provide the same discounts.

Thanks for the info on this Mel. I am an American in Dubai and once they contacted me by email, just fax the form in and in two days had a temp number for booking. Once I am in Thailand in a few weeks they will send the card to my hotel. Booked Asoke Residence for 2630 or something like that. Anybody know how the restaurant is there? How about at the Suk Grand on Soi 6? Anyone eaten there? Anway, Mel thanks again for the valuable tip. Free night to boot.

Turns out I was wrong. I was able to purchase the Asia version of the card.
They contacted me via e-mail, and I emailed back the completed form. I received the card today.
I had hoped that the card would also get me discounted rates in Europe next month. But so far, checking rates with the card number and without show the same result. No discount. Not sure why the hotels allow me to specify the Advantage Plus card when there seems to be no benefit.
No matter. The free night's stay voucher will cover more than half the cost of the card once I get back to BKK.
And don't forget the free birthday cake voucher. Works out since I should be in BKK for my birthday. Do TG's eat cake? Now what is that saying? You can't eat your cake and have her too? Or you can't have your cake and and eat her too?
kimchisniffer, be sure to let us know how it goes at the Asoke Residence. Counting on you to prove that it is indeed gf.

sai tai, Can confirm. Using the Australian card for any hotel in Europe or USA you get transfered to the "International sight".
Seems that they are encouraging us Aussies to holiday in the Asia region,,,, I guess the same problem comes when the Europe card holder or US card holder looks at prices in Asia < they get normal price not the discounted price we see.

I just got my card 1 month back. This card apply to Asia only and not Europe or US. I had confirmed with the office.
