Quote: from magnum on 5:34 pm on Dec. 19, 2009 ... BadfishIbc... to be sure, the Wotif blind deal IS the Grand Millennium?.. right? ... on what date did you sign-up for it?
I'm positive it's the Grand Millenium if it's the 2600 Baht 5 star hotel deal going on right now. I booked it for the 17th and 18th, already completed my stay there and moved onto a serviced apartment now as I needed a bigger place. There was one blackout date around Dec 30th if I recall correctly. Now it looks like 3 days are blacked out maybe thanks to WackyJacky (sunday, thursday and friday)

Arrived at the Grand Millennium early this morning. Arranged limo pickup from airport and everything went very well (2100BTH). Booked a club room for 3700BTH incl. for 2 persons. Was greeted and guided up to the club lounge for check in. While checking in I was encouraged to upgrade to a club suite, which should be good value for money (2000BTH extra), and half asleep I agreed But indeed, the suite is very nice, two separate rooms, walk in closet, jaccuzzi, two toilets, shower, two flat screens, working desk and free wi-fi internet. So far, so good. Tonight I will test out the level of guest friendlyness

Not me, I swear. I'm shooting for Starwood Platinum and there's a deal at the Plaza Athenee where you can get about 20 starpoints/$ on a 4 night stay. That'll get me there. Otherwise I'd be on it 'like a bum on a bologna sandwich'. Booked Majestic Grande for 2200 and got an Expedia BRG $50 coupon/nite too. Can't work that trick with the 'secret hotel' on WOTIF. wj

I have just made my reservation through Wotif for the 5* Mystery Suk, sure enough I got the Grand Millenium, many thanks to the OP about this offer. You do get hit for a 125thb booking charge but that's OK with me, 2 nights for 5325. Now I just have to find a nice girl from Shark to do the hotel justice when I arrive on the 17th Jan.

I stayed at GM twice recently, very GF for sure. First visit for two nights booked on Wotif for 2500 + a few baht handling charge. I got a free upgrade to a Deluxe, 21st floor facing soi 23, very nice and very quiet room, terrific bed. For my next visit last week I booked wotif for Tues and Weds (2x 2600) but had to use Directrooms for Monday(3500 inc breakfast), 9th floor and a little too close to Soi asoke for my liking. Directrooms were the next best rate after Wotif, I didn't fancy changing hotels so I paid the higher rate, but GM let me keep the same room. Breakfast at the GM is a waste of time as far as I was concerned, and given the clientele when I was in the restaurant, I was amazed to see that nearly all the Bacon had been eaten. The bar does a 2 for 1 deal from about 1600 hrs but as bottled beers are 200++ it is not a good deal. The good deal is that the coffee shop deli has 50% discount for takeaway after 6pm, you can get some good bargains there. Finally the GM is a fair walk to the BTS in the hot sun and maybe taking all things into consideration, next time I am in BKK I may go back to CL19 if it saves me a 1000 per night.

... Gus... useful details on the Grand Millennium... thanks... but, "CL19"?... you apparently suggest it as an alternative at a price point just less than the Grand Millennium, but give us a break, eh?... we are not mind readers.

City Lodge Soi 19 would be my educated guess for CL19

Sorry for being too cryptic guys, yes CL19 is indeed City lodge Soi 19. The Grand Millenium is a lot better hotel than City lodge, but if you book on Wotif and you get a room near to Soi Asoke then you may hear traffic noise, especially the Tuk Tuks in the 2am to 6 am period. I really like the security guy on the barrier who clicked his heels and saluted as I entered and departed the hotel. The Grand has a small pool area which only catches the sun in the morning, also it is directly under some cooling vents which are pretty noisy. There is a small inconsistency in service which you probably wouldn't get at a top class hotel, some days I got a newspaper on the door, one day I got three oranges for my room, probably one a day, one day there was no shower gel left, although the bathroom comps are generally very good. The Grand Millenium is a good hotel, but staying for 3 nights would cost me around 8000 baht, if I stayed at City Lodge soi 19 it would cost me around 4800 baht. That leaves 3200 extra to fritter away down Cowboy.
