Great - I really liked everything about the Conrad. It has such a nice feel to it and the staff seem to know the score with everything. Did they automatically know it was your 20th stay, or did you advise them ? I think I may be reaching that landmark with another hotel. Special mention to the bathrooms - girls seem to like the glass doors and large windows, and the rubber duck - gets my vote everytime. RTB limo - classic ! What would he actually call his vehicle if he did have a limo ? helicopter ? batmobile ?

romeland, the limo thing was a in house reward so it was a total surprise. The BKK Conrad at times has service lapses, a little too frequently.

You Guys that like the Five star & Four star Hotels to camp should get a Better Deal from now on. Hotel slump may last two years Published: 20/08/2009 at 12:00 AM Newspaper section: Business BKK Post Average occupancy at Bangkok's high-end hotels will remain anaemic at about 50% to 60% for the next two years, says Jones Lang Lasalle Hotels. Bangkok has registered the most significant decline in average hotel occupancies across Asia, with the five-star segment contracting by 33.3% year-on-year in the first half. The global hotel investment services firm forecast occupancy rates at the city's four- and five-star hotels of between the low-50% and low-60% range over the next two years. Any recovery relies entirely on their being sufficient numbers of visitors to absorb new hotel supply. About 7,154 new international standard hotel rooms, representing an 11.2% increase in the Bangkok's total room supply, will come online within 2011. Of the total, 50.7% is in the four-star segment, with the remaining supply evenly spread between three and five-star categories, said JLL. Weak international arrivals and an oversupply of rooms will create a very challenging environment from now until 2012, said the firm. Hotel developers will focus more on internationally branded and managed three-star limited service hotels, said Andrew Langdon, senior vice-president of Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels in Thailand. Average year-to-date occupancy rates for the five-star segment was 46.5%, down 23.4% year-on-year. Average daily rate (ADR) declined by 9.8% year-on-year, to 5,175 baht per room per night, with revenue per available room (RevPar) was down 39.7% to 2,430 baht. Four-star hotel average occupancy dropped to 50.8%, down by 20.5% year-on-year, with ADR contracting by 10.5% to 2,729 baht per room per night, with RevPar falling by 36.2% to 1,387 baht. Bangkok has registered the biggest decline in hotel occupancy in Asia, for the year up to June. The five-star segment contracted by 33.3% and the four-star by 28.8%. However, the decline in local average room rates appears to have eased when compared to the 20% and larger drops witnessed in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Beijing and Shanghai. The combination of ongoing domestic political uncertainty, the strengthening Thai baht and the global downturn has contributed to the 21.2% year-on-year decline of Bangkok's international visitor arrivals. The company projected hotel financing from Thai banks will remain challenging due to stricter lending criteria. However, a number of Thai groups have started investing in attractively-priced hotel properties outside of Thailand over the past 12 months. The firm expects this trend to continue into the second half. Seems like most things in Thailand at the moment barter hard and you might just get a better price than you thought. ------------------------------------------------------------------ So my Friends looks like some value to be had if you can close a Deal. Now if you want a better Rate for your Dollar I know of a place 10mins by taxi from Sukhumvit that PAYS a better rate than the exchange booths and Banks! Just bring $100 Bills American or Australian My Wife put me on to this Place years back and I normally get 2 bht more per Aussie $ don't worry it's safe Cameras and looked doors. Do the Maths, and No I have No interest in the Business Pm me for details Your Welcome.

The 5* hotels may be suffering with the recession, I always like to stay at JWM or Landmark but I cannot seem to find exceptionally good rates for these 2 hotels. Once I even stayed at the Westin, maybe via Priceline but that doesn't seem to have the Suk 5* deals like in the past.

I just got a deluxe suite for US$140 per night at the Landmark through Expedia which seems a pretty decent rate. They are actually quoting the room at $280 per night but for every night you stay at that rate you get one night free, so if you stay an even number of nights it works out at $140 per night. Same applies to all other Landmark floor rooms but with club and lifestyle floors it's pay for 2 nights and one night free.

Got some good deals Jul-Aug. Adelphi Grande - $45/nite minus $75/4 nites Orbitz coupon. Legacy 29 - $54 minus $30/nite Expedia coupons. Centrepoint 10 - 1750 bht someplace or other. I liked the brand new AG better than Legacy, but the Centrepoint was truely deluxe. Huge rooms, nice amenities, IMO better than a SPG room at the Sheraton. If attainable for less than 2K - it's a steal wj

I e-mailed Majestic suites to see what rate they would give me, I think it was 1850. On Agoda it is 1512, so I emailed M S telling them I would be booking with Agoda for 1512. MS replied, "look forward to seeing you, book with Agoda" I may yet go somewhere else, butterfly with girls and hotels, the 1070 baht at CL19 sounds tempting, more for me to spend on girls and booze.

You know, things have changed - for the better. I used to stay at the Sheraton Grande, then Westin Grande, then Landmark, then Nai Lert Park - Swisshotel, then Center Pointe Serviced apartments, then Adelphi Suites. But now there are a lot of really nice, clean hotels, in great locations for between 1,700 and 2,500 baht per night. There is Paradiso Suites, on Soi 10, very nice. The new On8 Hotel on Soi 8. The Key Hotel behind the Westin is quite acceptable. Also, S15 at Sukumvit, Soi 15. Citichick, Le Fenix, all the Citidines. Lots of great choices these days - if you are willing to spend a bit more. But, the reward is a nice, clean, new room, with flatscreen TV and wireless internet - all guest friendly. Not too shabby.
