stayed there for one night only about 5 weeks ago! never again, as this place is rundown, shabby and quite rude in their treatment. upon checking in i was informed no girls over night without joner fee! i said i booked a double and my gf will come later, they asked for the name and i just replied i will give you an id later and went to the room. had to change room twice as too loud due to construction works in house and second room no a/c working.
came back at about 04:00 am in the morning with my night companion. lucky enough the security and reception people were already sleeping and didn't bother baout my companion, so slipped through without any id or joiner hazzle!
being fed up i changed hotels the next morning!
the royal parkview is a much better and nicer option on soi 22, for the same price as tai pan and completely gf. only problem is that they don't have a 24h room service and only thai tv, which can be a hazzle too, but that is another story!

Had problem with check in, no King bed. After some negotiation they agreed to give me high floor, which I booked online. It was queens birthday/mothers day, agency where I bought the accommodation was closed.
As well was Soi Cowboy.
They treated my gf not so nice at reception, according to her. I made sure they would know who is the boss anyway.
Also if you would loose safety box key...would cost you 5000 baht. One month pay for many thai jobs. That says it all.
Room was not bad though. This hotel seems to have many customers from Hong Kong.

Enjoyed two dinner buffet's there this past week. They really do take pride in their food, and put on a nice combo of Thai and Continental cusine for a very good value. If good thai food is higher on your priority list than entertaining guests in your room it is still a viable option, IMHO. The location is very good, too.
I do recall the rooms were nothing special, but at the price point and location they offer there is value to be had...

Taipan is bad. No girl friednly. Tooms are crappy, No king size bed. Very intrusive. Bottom line, there are many may better places for the same price.

Odd I have stayed there 16 times from 1999-2005 and never been asked for a joiner fee. Several girls said the staff very very polite to them. Rooms are among the best for the money IMO, well kept with nice beds. The travel agent is crap but I cannot see where there is a better quality place for the money. Maybe it depends how you behave I don't know but I never had any trouble. The music in the bar is terrible and, so many noce memories of this place. The rooms on the lower floors are the worst, they do (did) use some as ST for clients from pegasus/narcisus. Owner is a christian so maybe born again on the joiner fee?-peter

Let me share my experience with you all. When I visited Bangkok about 6 months ago, I arrived at Bangkok Airport and from the Airport Hotel Information, I selected Tai pan Hotel @ 2200 for Double occupancy. Room was quite large, king size bed. Bathroom was not that good, just ok. Incidently no noise. When I arrived with my companion at 4 pm, they took her ID, and when they checked that I have double room booking, they did not say any thing. Restaurant is okay, no complaints. Lots of Japanese crowd. Swiming pool is goood at 6th floor. Haven't tried massage though. The reason I stayed here beacuse it is closed Akane, Baccara all those attractive places of my choice. Any latest update on Tai pan ?
