Walking distance the Westin Grande Sukhumvit wins.... by just a bit. Both of them are one BTS stop from Nana.
Google Earth ruler: Plaza Athenee 1.206.75 meter
Westin: 911.86 meters (Walking path).
Of course, the Westin is also close to Soi Cowboy (319.52 meters) and Soi 33... (1155,23 meters).
Location wise probably the better of the two.
Westin is GF with a long walk of shame... not sure about Athenee....

According to my GPS application, Westin is 1.1 KM from Nana Hotel. Plaza Athenee is 796 M.
Westin is guest friendly. Don't know about the Plaza Athenee.
Westin is a short walk to Asok BTS. And is also near Soi Cowboy.
Both are pricey.

athenee closer. but westin is the better choice, as in close proximity to cowboy, glow and toxic.
it also has a nice bar (zest) at the lobby level.

Glow and Toxic are bars.
Since you're using SPG points, consider the Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit, if it's an option. Nicer than the Westin, IMO, guest friendly and no walk of shame. Also closer to Nana, only because you don't have to cross Sukhumvit Road to walk there.

Obviously you pair have looked at the GPS google earth application at different times of the day.
Being so close to the equator and this time of the year being the most hottest, you will get different calibrations, eg distances.
The US military will not adjust the differences for us mortals, it is adjusted only for military purposes and the rest of us can go jump in the lake. But it is for free so we gratefully take it.
I would suggest when you want an accurate reading to do it at the following times. The land mass of SEA, has not warmed up enough to allow for variances, so the best accurate times are:-
3am on the Thai-Malay border,
4am in Bangkok,
5am in Chiang Rai.

Agree. Stay at the Sheraton.
Skyway access to BTS and MRT.
Guest friendly - don't even card the girls.
One of best swimming pools of any hotel.
Great King Size beds.

School me up on your GPS theory. I have NEVER heard of such a thing.
In the late 90's Clinton released the Military P-Code locked GPS satellites for civilian use (Greater Accuracy). Primarily for Aviation users using them for Instrument Approaches.
Your temperature theory does not make sense.
