From a position point of view, there's nothing between them. You're talking about a differences of 400 metres. But I've stayed at both. Much prefer the Sheraton Grande. I suppose all our perceptions of hotels are based on personal experiences - I didnt like the Landmark because of the staff's attitude. If you're spending 4-5000 on a hotel in Bkk, I would suspect there are much better choices than the Landmark.

How about since the renovation that Landmark has done seems like they have more restaurants and facilities then the Sheraton. Anyone with some current info would be most helpful. Thanks.

sanook... you know me - i'm a big fan of the President Solitaire. I stay loyal to them, and they stay loyal to me (particularly in terms of being discrete with my.. ummm..indiscretions). Besides, on price there's no comparison. I think I mentioned I have a monthly rate which equates to about 1700 a night for one of the better (non jacuzzi) suite. Can't fault it. Some members might think the minute walk to Suk Road lets it down.. to me that is one of its advantages..quiet, discrete and away from the madding crowd. And I love that walk..saying hi to all girls outside various bars, dodging the taxi mafia, picking up a bottle of water at 7-11 to wash down the 10 baht pineapple binge. All of that gets me in the mood for Suk Road. By the way sanook....how is Corner Bar going? I went in a couple of times, but it seemed very quiet. I hope they make it.

I recently stayed at the Landmark between Nov. 18th thru Nov. 21st, 2004. This is my 2nd time in BKK, but my first time at Landmark. I stayed at Shangri-La on my maiden voyage. For this trip this time it came down to the Landmark vs. Sheraton Grande Sukuhmvit. I chose Landmark because of according to the post on this site, there was not much difference in quality and they are both in good locations. So, I opted for the less expensive hotel. I offer my opinion as just that. Others may have had a totally different experience. I do extensive traveling for both business and holiday. Most of the time I stay at 5 to 4 star accomodations. Please take this into consideration as you read further into the level of expectations I was looking for. PROs: Location is great! Near NEP and Soi Cowboy. Nana station is a quick walk from the hotel. Hotel transportation is great. The lobby is more spacious than most and has the look of being grand. Walk-up call was reliable. In-room DVD/MP3/CDR player. Separate bath and shower facility. Complimentary daily bottled water and welcome fruit bowl. In-room safe, free robe and slippers. Central control of room lights and electronics. Big and comfortable bed. Clean accomodations. CONs: Too many to list, but I will try. As for bringing back TGs, I thought their were too many staff members even late in the evening...it intimidated me a little, so I actually did not bring any TGs back to the hotel and instead opted for alternative locations for that type of activity. 4 Elevators, but it just seems that only 1 works at any given time...too slow and always full of people with too many stops along the way. I stayed in the Lifestyle floor hoping to get better accomodations and service as it caters to more business oriented people...hi speed internet is over $16USD a day! Outrageous! This should be part of the room as a business guest. Housekeeping on my 1st night just barged in without ringing the bell or knocking on the door. Laundry service took all day (went out before 8AM and returned after 11PM) and they ended up overcharging me which caused a bit of a delay during my checkout! It takes two flushes to do the job because of poor water pressure. The rooms are not insulated from outside noise...I kept hearing people slam their doors in the late hours of the nite while I tried to get some rest. They made a mistake with my credit card during check-in, so I had to go back downstairs again to straighten things out (this ate up close to 1 hour). Not enough people at the front desk during high volume checkout...people were upset as they left in a hurry to catch their flights. The staff overall was polite and courteous, but I expected better English skills for this type/class of hotel. Huge fitness facility, but only 2 stationary bikes and only one can be used because the other is next to it and there is not enough room for two simultaneous people. The fitness room is HEAVILY staffed, but most of them just stand there and are not really helpful. I actually had to go back and forth multiple times between the locker room and attendant of the fitness room to be able to use their lockers, because they did not explain to me how to use the facility. It was like pulling teeth. You had to go ask for everything and that was after you learn the hard way. The food at the Atrium was just so-so, and since I had access to the Business Lounge I thought it would be better, but it turned out to be less. Turns out I paid more but really got less...Looks can be very deceiving. In a nutshell, the Landmark looks more impressive than it really is. Once you check "under the hood" sort of speak you will find that its a lot of hype. Its an okay hotel, but its too pricey for what you actually get. Based on my experience, I don't think I will stay there again. Next time, I might try Sheraton Grande or go back to Shangri-La (Khrungtip Tower). I've also been to Peninsula, Banyan, Mandarin and JW Marriott and can recommend those if you are looking for a higher class type of hotel accomodations. Honestly, there are many on this forum that might give me grief regarding my comments and also pointing the fact that hotel is not that important for various reasons...blah blah blah... I under and respect that, but also understand and respect that my information might be useful for some fellow members who prefer a certain level of accomodation. Like I said, I travel a lot for both business and holiday and I've come to expect a certain class of accomodations on my travels. Thailand is a great place for hotels. It has something for everyone. It has very affordable places as well as some of the best accomodations in the world. I just happened to have a lesser experience this time out, but next time should be better. -m

I greatly prefer the JW Marriott over the Landmark; although I do sometimes use the Huntsman's Pub in the basement of the former. The JW is more expensive, but only thing that really bugs me at the JW is the cost of the high speed internet ( baht 600 per day). One can get a HJ for that!

My professional point of view: Landmark is a 4 stars hotel "pretending to be a 5 stars" while the Sheraton Grande is a full 5 star. When it comes to Sukhumvit hotels: 1. Sheraton Grande 2. Westin Grande 3. JW Marriot 4. Landmark 5. Amari Boulevard

Landmark, stayed there end of october... I totally agree with madmane: Arrived there at 8 AM, 3-4 minutes check in (fastest check in ever !!!!), then some french lady manager escorted me to my room (lifestyle floor room, rate ard 128 usd ++) to discover that the room has no bath tub !!! she said I should have chosen the superior room... no problemo... she checked the difference : 20 usd ++... not worth it... a quick shower then off to bed after some 32 non-sleep hours... after one hour... the telephone rang, the french manager: sorry to bother u mr., it seems we forgot to take ur signature on the check-in form, can I come to ur room to sign the form ?!!!.... Hell no, I want to sleep !!!!! later, later.... so the 3-4 minutes check-in were ruined by this annoying call !!!! Room, a neat newly furnished room, with in room MP3/DVD/CD player and an excellent speaker in the bathroom... lovely... Broadband 642B ++ why ?!?!! Breakfast, average, croissant r baked each 20 minutes... hot, fresh and tasty Sun deck and pool, not bad, mostly used by old people (60+) Location, walking distnace from the FP (Fun Package), from Darling's Sandwich, from Nana station (can get to emmannuelle and poseidon so easily... yummmmmi !!!! ) checking out, a disaster!!!!, they charged me a 1300B limo ride to airport which was supposed to be included in my package as a free transfer to airport, and the clever receptionist made the reservation at 6 AM (eventhough she knew I was checking out at 6 PM...) Then I need a calculation course to understand : room rate 128 usd x 42 (exchange rate $/B) then all charges were added and the new total divided over 40 to be settled in usd account !!! hell yes, i'm into numbers but not this way of numbers !!!!! All in all, good experience, to repeat !!!!
