I have stayed at President Solitaire twice, both times using Sid from their website. No VAT or anything added was extra. The last trip a few weeks back did not include breakfast as I found out as I was billed. I was told it was a special the first time. But other than that little problem I did ok going direct. I also booked Landmark direct last year and did better than all other internet services for a "suite sensation" package. Landmark service was GREAT, but it is hotel, not services apartment. For the money I like President Solitaire, for location I like landmark.

It says on their website:
- Rates are subject to 10 percent Service Charge
- VAT (7%) is applicable for President Solitaire
The best deals are the monthly rates which are inclusive of the 10% service charge.

I have booked myself into the Solitaire for 4 nights (Platinum Suite) from May 28, just to see what it's like. Went through the internet and was charged 4000Bt per night which includes the VAT & Service Charge. I contacted the apartments direct & give them details of how often I come to Bkk ( av. 5 days per month). They offered me the exact same rate as the internet. If I like the place I will speak to them in person when I am there to see if I can get it down a bit.
I just quit my regular hotel after 2 years because they upped my daily rate by 25% to 3300Bt a few months back. Stubborn git that I am, I am prepared to pay more at Solitaire than they were asking for at my old hotel - it's the principle of the thing! Besides, I have some ideas for that 4-poster bed and jacuzzi!!

I think it depends on what rate one is quoted and where the quote comes from. There may be some rates that are all-inclusive, either from the Solitaire or from a travel agent. But if you are looking at published rates from the Solitaire on their website, then you need to look at their specific conditions and terms for that rate.
The question of VAT is interesting, since apartments do not have to collect VAT. However, apartements are not supposed to rent for less than 30 days, unless they collect VAT. Not all serviced apartments follow the law.

I am currently at the Pres. Solitaie for 30 days. Staying in a Platinum suite. The room is great w/lots of goodies. (74 sq. meters, 2 flatscreen tvs, 1 42" plasma HD, free in room high speed internet, jacuzzi,etc.etc.) The location sucks but it's only a Bht35, 5 min. taxi ride to the action. They also have a free suttle that will take you to Sukumvit Rd.
Cost is Bht1,621 per night. for the 1 month rate. My 2nd stay here. Shorter stays are a little more per night.

1,621 baht per night is about 50,000 baht per month. The price on the website for the Platinum suite is 75,000 baht. Is that correct?
