OK, let me rephrase the question.

I usually stay at the JW which is right between the Nana BTS station and Phloen Chit. I end up using whichever station is in the direction that I'm traveling. If I stay at the CY, is it faster to walk to the Chit Lom station and head in the direction of Nana, or take the
Skytrain from Ratchadamri and have my fun with the Siam transfer?

Not planning this minute to stay there but I checked it out on the web of pure curiousity. I am always a bit disturbed when hotels just show display pics and a part of the bed. Usually means rooms are very small. Also no mention what different rooms they offer or sq m size.

They seem to charge for internet access (over 600 b per day?!) which is also a stay away for me. Plenty of places where it is included. Just make out how much extra that is for a 20-30 day stay! I have no monetary problems but I look carefully for a place to stay where you get the most out of the money. As prices are going up up up in Bangkok now it will be more and more difficult!

I realize the Courtyard is new, but any experience on what $/THB conversion rate the other Marriott's use for gift cards? I wonder if the rate is so unfavorable that you actually get less than $85 value out of it (thus negating the purchasing discount).

I didn't pay attention earlier in the thread, but when I saw conversion rate mentioned my hackles rose and I needed to bark about Marriott's conversion rates.

I don't actually have personal experience with these gift cards, but I would also speculate that the desk staff might manage to remove 15% of their value in fees and exchange rates. Good caution, lukecald.

I notice they now quote their room rates in THB on marriott.com, which is good and will remove some potential, uh, confusion USA guests might have about what will actually be charged.

I got it now, thanks (I'm not usually this thick). Six of one, half dozen of the other...

I would be surprised if the Marriott rips you off on the conversion using the gift cards. Keep in mind the hotel has no idea you are getting these cards at a discount. They think you paid $100 for each card. I'm bringing a couple with me to Thailand to use at the JW for cocktails and most likely one night at the Courtyard. You can also book directly with the 1-800 Marriott number and they will give you a price in U.S. dollars and then you know exactly what you are paying for the room. Maybe you can even pay in advance so there is no payment required at the hotel. I'm not making any $ on these cards just trying to help a few people out with a perk I get. People always think there is some other motive or that the hotel will rip them off. It really makes no difference to me if you save 15% or not. I'll still be able to sleep at night.

LS, I'm not really commenting on whether your gift cards would be a good deal, or not. I'm just set off on a tangential rant by the keywords "Marriott" "exchange rates".

In my own experience, at the Pattaya Marriott a year ago, my credit card charge in dollars was significantly more than the room cost, quoted in dollars, on their website. [Of course I'm not talking about taxes and service charges, just the effects of exchange rate on room cost.] I thought the exchange rate locked in at checkin was chosen in their favor. At checkout you may be given a choice of being billed in dollars, or Baht. If you pick Baht, your credit card company will set the rate. If you pick dollars, the Hotel's bank will set the exchange rate. The checkout rate was strongly in their favor. I would recommend conducting the transactions in Baht.

I'm glad if others have not had a bad experience with this.

I finally got around to using the Courtyard Marriott.

Rooms may be a tad better than CenterPoint.

The only thing I don't like about the rooms is no bath-tub. Showers only. There is a place to sit down in the shower but I prefer laying back in the tub while reading the morning paper ;P
