I didn't mind 2 teenage girls playing with some toys. Like I said, they didn't have a fridge or TV in their appartment. They tried once but the electric bill was too high, if I understood correctly. I just wish they understand that any money spent on the expensive hotel stuff is money that goes to neither of us. Now I know I can restock the fridge and lock the TV. Great!
The girls claimed to be 19. Yeah right! But they couldn't get into the Q-bar. What's the age to get in there? Something like 20. Hence, dancing and drinking at Rainbow 2.

I will be back in BKK in March and although my flight comes with a free nights stay at the Mandarrin Hotel in Silom I quite fancy the Landmark. I will only be in BKK for the first and last night, so can anyone tell me the following...
Which floors are the basic double rooms on?

Are these rooms bigger than those at the Majestic?

I'm also planning to entertain a couple of girls on my first night and want a good setting so should I be considering something bigger?
The Mandarrin looks a bit tatty and I'm only thinking about it because it's free can anyone tell me me what it's like?

Hi Bertyboy,

Just stayed in the Landmark, booked a double de luxe, pleanty of room for usual plus desk, sofa, coffee table etc, also very big shower cubicle, could get 3 in no problem. I was on the 18th floor (non smoking floor) and to the side of hotel as its on busy road. Very girl friendly. All being well im back in BKK end of Feb and going back to Landmark.

Hi Bertyboy,

I think you are right in thinking that the Mandarin Hotel (Rama IV Road) is run-down and tatty. Also, it is not girl friendly.

I first stayed at this hotel on my first visit to Bangkok in 1995, but have not stayed there since 2002 and have no reason to believe that the place has improved since then. I still usually go back to eat in the restaurant each time I visit Bangkok, but only for nostalgic reasons. I wouldn’t recommend it. But, I still smile at the coffee shop waitress’s disapproval of my visiting Patpong for a night out in 1995 “Patpong lady no good, Mandarina lady very good.” I never got to find out. The Mandarin is only about 5 minutes walk from the new MTR subway station at Sam Yan and about 5 minutes more to Patpong. Little else is convenient and there are no shops around.

On my last visit to the hotel in March 2002 I took a lady back with me (oh, the shame!). When I got back to the hotel another punter with a lady in tow was already having an almighty row with the reception about the joiner charge which was then 500 Baht. This was the last night of my holiday, so I just wanted to get to my room without any hassle so I agreed to pay. I hadn’t been in my room long when I got a telephone call from reception, followed a few minutes later by a knock at the door. I have no intention of staying at the Mandarin Hotel ever again.

I am planning a trip in April 2006. I am trying to decide between Landmark, Westin or Sheraton. So far I am leaning towards Westin, have to try those heavenly beds and is closer to soi cowboy and soi 33. Is nana much further in terms of walking or catching a taxi or mrt.

What is the policy with bringing in girls, I know to book double but what happens if I just book single room but of course with a queen size bed. If I book single would they still charge for the overnight guest. Thanks.

The Landmark is ideal, perfect location, its 1 min walk from Nana Plaza, I walked to Soi Cowboy one night about 15-20 mins and got a bit hot towards the end, next night taxi 50 bht (much better idea) Soi 7 beer garden across the road, Lolitas round the corner, Nana skytrain station 1 1/2 mins walk, totally girl friendly and when I was there a double was same price as a single, excellent buffet breakfast, the Huntsman bar is in the basement.
I dont work for them! just had a cracking time there.

Just book a double room and avoid any problems, a single room will not be that much cheaper anyway.

My experience has been favorable at Landmark in regards to walking a lady in with me or arranging for one to visit my room. In my 4 years of staying here the
staff has always smiled and never stopped me to ask questions. When a girl visited my room they called up to see if I "ordered" lady. When I said yes the girl was allowed to enter. When she leaves security usually calls me to ensure everything is ok. This is a first class hotel, in a prime location and with plenty of space in the rooms.

I look forward to my next stay at the Landmark starting January 6 after the long haul from San Jose, California.

Have fun and be safe to all.

Back from a dream... for me only the Landmark! No JW, no Westin, no Sheraton... if you stay long and repeat guest.. they may upgrade you for free... for little over 3300bhat/night incl. breakfast (this has been the price few monthes ago), I got a suite on the exec floor. Nice deal I think.

Cheers!

Hard Luck

tatty is the least of it.

I know someone who checked in with two kids having arrived from London.....and checked out the same evening, suffering the inconvenience of transporting 2 tired kids across BKK to a known hotel, rather than stay there.

My advice, if you are on a holiday, forget the free part...enjoy yourself and don't arrive.....actually...better still use it as a Silom ST hotel for a night.....it's about all it's worth.
