A helpful tip if you decide to stay at GP in Tower II. Stay on the opposite side facing the Ambassador Hotel unless you like sqwaking birds. They have a huge bird collection and every morning at sunrise it sounds like you are in the middle of the Amazon Jungle.

I'm at the Grand President now and it seems fine. I got a deal on a "Royal Suite". I'm paying 14190 thb for 4 nights ($316 US including all service charges) By the old math, about $80 per night. Plasma TV in living room, separate bedroom with king bed. I'm saving some money on my return from Pattaya and staying at the quaint (I hear) Town Lodge.

This hotel is on Soi 11. Seems like an ok location. Breaksfast is included and good. Some stunner girls with their men at Breakfast. Book a double and the girl is entitled to breakfast also. Seems very girl friendly, but I may not opt for a LT on this trip. Who knows.

Of the 3 towers, stay in Tower I. Ask for a room overlooking the pool. I only hear comments about the other towers, especially 3, and they aren't great.

People at desk seem fine and English is fair. Yes, you have to put your room key card in the elevator, but that may be a good thing.

Last...a great safe in the room.

Try it. You may like it.

Hi Guys, Im thinking of getting a Topaz room for a month. I know Tower 3 not getting the best of reviews, but Im really trying to stay under 30,000....Topaz seems the best for my budget. I was wanting to know if Tower 3 has the walk of shame? Or just a security guard? Or is it really such a shit hole I should be forgetting it alltogther? I'm going to take Haam Sup's advice and go for a room ending in '60', so hopefully that will help with the view problem. I don't mind old furniture, as long as it's clean and reasonably vermon free!

Cheers,
Skippy

Skippy,

I would say Tower III at GP is a shithole, but then I am a pedantic, spoiled pain in the ass who is too soft on himself. Really, it's not a total shithole; just a shithole.

I found the rooms were in need of renovations, service was slow, walls weren't as soundproof as I like them, etc. Would never take a dive and stay at this or similar places again. However, the rooms were relatively clean and vermin-free.

Tower III (the one across the street from the main buildings) did not have the walk of shame in May of 2004; just a security guard who collected the girls' IDs.

Cheers,
GS

Could not agree more GS, my last stay there some months was the same. Over priced & very run down, never been back!

Thanks guys.....so its a shithole then? Think I'll give it a miss...never realised it was that bad. Currently looking at Chatra Court...kinda looks an ok deal and still in my budget.

Cheers

I agree with this.

I used to stay there every time I went and even the landmark didn't compare. When they raised their prices ( alot ) I found somewhere else. It's not worth it anymore. Also the breakfast went far downhill in the past years. Also agree with the big mouthed taxi guys across the street. I actually complained about them to the hotel and they were quiet for a day.

I am sitting in a Royal Suite in tower 2 as I type this post.

As far as I am concerned this is a great place - I have stayed here a total of 4 months in the last 12 and have never had a problem.

My suite is in excellent condition, nearly as good as new. It even has a washing machine/ dryer - in fact it has everything my house in the UK has except for the nagging wife !!

Ok its a bit pricey but if you book long term (6 - 12 months) they give a hefty discount if you ask nicely.

I have been staying at the GP when I am in Bangkok for several years after my last favorite place pissed me off one too many times ( Windsor suites). A few years back I decided GP had gotten too run down and I would not stay there anymore. Then they started renovating and I have been very happy as long as I get a room in Tower II. I have found their package deal for a Royal suite to be pretty good. However, in the last year the prices have gone up a lot and on my last two visits I got rooms that had not yet been renovated. In general I have found Tower I and III not to be worth the price. I am going back in a couple weeks and if I get a subpar room again I will talk with the managment and attempt to get a better room or explain why after 40+ stays they will never see my fat ass again.
