I have booked Sheraton from Jan 5th to Jan 7th at THB 6,375.00 on Starwood website. That is my 3 visit to this hotel and I still do not understand how some people get lower rates.

1, Book early. Revenue management will allocate only so many cheap rooms based on seasonal history, scheduled events, and expected demand. When the cheap rooms have been booked, the hotel will only add more rooms at that rate if actual demand lags behind the forecast as the booking date nears. (Same thing the airlines do with fares.) 2. If you are fortunate enough to be employed by a company that has a corporate agreement with Starwood, book using the corporate number. But even corporate rates will become unavailable as the hotel fills. Jan 5 - 7 is high season, so not many cheap rooms were ever made available. If you only just booked, there was no chance that any were still remaining. I made my booking for Dec 20 through Jan 1 at the end of October using my corporate ID. I was not able to get a corporate rate when including the night of Jan 1. (All hotels seem to be fully booked for that night.) So I booked from Dec 20 through Dec 31 to get a corporate rate, and then tried my luck at priceline.com for the last night. No dice... got the JW Marriot for Jan 1.

Hi KK, I'm guessing you really like the Hotel. I'm Starwood too and I get the corporate rate due to my years of service carrying bricks for the Pharoh's of Silicon Valley.... That having been said you can get a lot more for your money on Sukumvit. If you stay just behind the Westin at the Grottino the rooms are great and the service is excellent. Also extremely guest friendly with no charges or hassles. The facade is lame but the lobby is great and the little pub is excellent. the rooms are superior to the Sheraton or Westin as well in my book. http://www.grottino.com I stay there all the time when I'm in BKK or their sister hotle The Town Lodge. I'm looking now for something in the same price range as the Town Lodge because we're getting in on the 1st and I've done nothing in the way of bookings so far...duh... (any advice on the 1,100 to 1,600/night range appreciated that's reasonably close to the hotspots...) We are travelling with a friend who's never been before and he's on a tighter budget because he plans to stay in LOS for 2.5 months. My wife is Thai and we stayed a while back the Sheraton in Chiang Mai. I somehow didn't get my starwood points but the rate during high season was $89/USD/night. She liked the hotel but didn't think it was as good as it should be for the money. The Sheraton on Sukhumkit has newer and better facilities but costs way more and the rooms are almost exactly the same.

For pure business travel, Westin is good enough and has an executive lounge that serves snacks througout the day. Also for those travel without laptop (aggghhhh), there is a semi-private area in the executive lounge with high speed internet access that is free to those staying at the executive floor. For both business and leisure travellers, you can't beat the Sheraton except it does not have "executive floors' but the "Living Room" on 2nd floor from lobby has business center and comfy chairs and desk for small business meeting. The pool at the Sheraton is where it gets the edge over Westin. It is one of the most relaxing, beatiful pool in BKK. You almost feel that you are in Phuket or Hawaii when you are on that pool area. I stay at both places but prefer the Sheraton. It is well worth the money.

Keep checking the SPG website every few days. The rates fluctuate, but they tend to increase the closer you get to your target date. About 3-4 weeks out, I finally locked in at THB 5292.50 w/breakfast. I made (and canceled) 2-3 reservations between Sept and Nov, locking in lower prices each time.

Interesting... my initial booking was made choosing a rate quoted in USD. When I looked at my reservation later, it was quoted in Baht. As recently as the day before check-in the same figure in Baht was shown. But at check-in, the clerk had me sign and confirm the rate which now was a different amount in Baht... lower than the original quote! I guess they are honoring the original USD rate, and lowered the rate in Baht to do so.

After 11 days in the SGS, I can't say enough good things about it. Really spoiled by the service. The swimming pool is just as fantastic as everyone says. Except that you have to get there early to get a spot. Only hotel pool I've seen here where guests practically queue up for chaise lounges. TG from Soi Cowboy loved using the BTS skywalk that connects directly to the hotel. And she liked how the staff treated her just like any other hotel guest.

I have noticed that they have stopped even asking for ID of the girls. Both the Hyatt and Sheraton.
