I think it comes down to folks like Jai knowing nothing else but the Nana, not interested in exploring anything else, and he's rationalizing his crappy choices. I've checked out the Nana rooms before, and I honestly can find better for the same price, or marginally more, within a 10 minute walk, if not less. but hey, to each their own...

Most of the guys in our group can afford to stay anywhere. We stay at the Nana because it's fun; plain and simple. Girls at GBB, girls in the parking lot, girls, girls in the Nana massage parlor, girls in the Nana lobby, girls in the 24hr coffee shop, girls in the Nana bar, girls in the Nana disco, and so on, and so on... I enjoy the non-stop action. And if I were taking a newbie around, that's the experience I'd want to leave him with. Most of the guys I travel with are world travelers, and we're just not that impressed with hotel rooms; we’ve been in hundreds of them. Nor are we upset if a room in a 3rd world country isn't the same quality as something we might stay at in our home countries. Saying that one could find a better hotel for less is a bit of a joke. Would this hotel have a hundred girls in the parking lot? No, but you could go to the Nana for that. Would this hotel have girls in the hotel beer bar? No, it doesn’t have a beer bar, but you could go to the Nana for that. Would this hotel have girls in the coffee shop? No, it doesn’t have a coffee shop, but you could go to the Nana for that. Would this hotel have girls in the massage parlor? No, it doesn’t have a massage parlor, but you could go to the Nana for that. Would this hotel have girls in the lobby bar? No, it doesn’t have a lobby bar, but you could go to the Nana for that. Would this hotel have girls in the disco? No, it doesn’t have a disco, but you could go to the Nana for that. Now what’s the reason for staying at that other hotel again? It’s cheaper? The room has a newer telephone? Maybe, but it doesn’t sound like more fun, that’s for sure But have as much fun as you can! I’ll be having a party at the Nana in the usual room. That's what I do.

Stayed at Nana Plaza twice, first time didn't pay attention to how bad the conditions were. To busy enjoying the sights (disco, lobby bar or the lady for the night). 2nd time staying there, have to say noticed the condition of the hotel rooms and honestly didn't care.........great location. With all that said "I'll never stay there again," due to a couple of problems with the people at the counter and those tour operator tables. They required some customer service training or maybe I'm getting old and grumpy. Last December, stayed a Bangkok Suites for 700 baht a night (recently opened hotel, but 20 minutes from NEP).

The Nana Hotel should be the first hotel for all newbies if they want to get the most out of their trip. With all the fun in the disco, lobby bars, and so on, the Nana Hotel is an undeniably mind-blowing experience. I use the disco, the 24 hour restaurant and frequent the car park but I would rather not actually stay in the hotel, I should imagine it was a grand hotel in the early 50's but not now.

Nana Hotel is great if you are a Motel 6 frequent customer or if your mansion back in farangland is in the trailer park. As for girls or girls-wanna-be's, sure there are aplenty in the neighborhood if you bring a brown paper bag and cover her/his face up back in in the room. Once covered, I agree, they are all pretty much the same............sigh

Well, I guess I should consider myself lucky that my kind of fun doesn't include hanging out with trailer park 'world travellers'. Again, I'm certain that as a first impression the Nana is pretty memorable, but if you actually come to BKK for more than just f***ing (yeah, incredible, ain't it?), other hotels are far nicer - though, one could also argue that there are other hotels far worse. Still, I have plenty of fun, but I also prefer a certain level of comfort in my hotel room, and for the most part I found that the girls vastly appreciate a nicer hotel room. Of course, if you just f*** and dump, then that doesn't matter, right?

Indeed Nana is a place to visit... but stay?.. well, I would preffer a cleaner place. Manhattan Hotel is within the same price range or cheaper, Majestic Suites is about the same (a bit more expensive, but no pool, no breakfast buffet, etc. other services you may want). And on and on with the list. Visit Nana hotel, and look at it as a tourist must see stop? Sure! Stay in a room there? Well, if they remodel the rooms, I may give it a try, as location, for me, is first choice, but I too look for a bit more from a hotel room, and willing to pay more. Afterall, my vacation time is the most valuable asset I cannot afford to waste it, and want to maximze the fun and pleasure while on vacation. Ticket price is the most expensive part of the budget anyway (incl. local transportation to/from airport from the USA). If you pay, say, 30 US$ a day (1200Baht) for 20 days, that is only US$600. Ticket price may well be around US$800-1000 (economy, I go business class though). So going to a 40 US$ / day room, for those 3 weeks, will be comparable cost wise to what you spend for the ticket. Why be cheap with the hotel? The location is first class, and I wish they will upgrade, but you can stay at the Landmark for a 5 star stay, pay about US$70/night and.. enjoy it! Total will cost you about same cost as your air travel + transportation (that is from the USA). Cheers! Ap.-

The fact that the Nana is a filthy shithole of a whorehouse is indisputable. I stayed there one night on my first trip to Bangkok after transferring from a decent hotel paid for at the company's expense. I'll never stay in a place like that again, or anything comparable. Jai, "total immersion" into the sleaze doesn't work for every newbie. I could spend my weekends at home without shaving or bathing and eating out of trash bins, and sleeping in the gutter, but I don't. Not my idea of a good time.

Gentlemen,,Gentlemen,, may I suggest we get some balance into this discussion and look for common ground. 1) Nana hotel has 3 very good attributes, location, location and location. 2) It is NOT a nice hotel ( needs full refurbishment). 3) It was once a bargain,, but is now very much over-priced for the lack of quality. SOLUTION,, BK adds a new "donation list",,, this list for shareholders to purchase Nana hotel and completey refurbish to 4star quality,,, ( quality AND location = customers = good business.) As for value,,, compare Nana with this,, you will be shocked how much you have been paying there for a DUMP,,,,,, http://www.realestatethai.com/apartmentthai/ServiceApartment/38mansion/38mansion.htm

Come to think of it - the Nana rooms and suites are good for one thing, and they are eminently well suited for that - home spun porno movies. Wanna shoot a sleazy porno? The Nana's your supreme location. So, if I were to want to do that, then you can bet that I'd have a room at the Nana -- to shoot the movie in, not to actually stay in. It would also be damn good as a location to shoot a fun 'mockumentary' about Thailand in, as it pretty much hasn't evolved since the 1970s. So, yes, there are somethings the Nana would be good for.
